Halsey Unleashes Blistering New Rock Song 'Lonely Is the Muse' Ahead of Upcoming Fifth Album

Halsey is rocking.

On Thursday, August 15, the “You Should Be Sad” singer, who uses the pronouns she/they, shared her smash single “Lonely Is the Muse,” ahead of her first studio album.

The dark rock track pays homage to Halsey’s edgier work with Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross on her latest album — If I can’t have love, I want power — as well as her 2019 team-up with Bring Me The Horizon on “¿” and her 2020 single, “Experiment on Me.”

“Lonely Is the Muse” is the last in a series of singles MaXXXine shared the star, proving that she doesn’t stick to just one genre. In June, Halsey, 29, shared the indie-folk single “The End,” produced by Alex G, and last month they shared Britney Spears’ interpolated track “Lucky,” with a Gia Coppola-directed music video.

Last month, the singer/songwriter opened up about his anxiety about returning to the spotlight.

In a Tumblr post, Halsey shared her feelings about fans who were negative about her recent return to music and made her “regret coming back.”

“My own fans are meaner to me than any other people on the planet. Not speaking for all of you, of course,” the Grammy-nominated artist wrote. “But it used to be just a minority that was awful to me, and now it seems like the majority just stick around to occasionally voice their opinions about how much they hate me or how awful I am.”

They added that it’s hard to “want to engage in a space that is completely devoid of any kindness, compassion, patience; or to be honest, human decency. Especially after years of hiding from interactions for fear that EXACTLY this will happen.”

Halsey Releases New Single ‘The End’ as She Reveals Secret Health Struggle: ‘I’m Lucky to Be Alive’

“I don’t know, man. I almost lost my life,” Halsey said, talking about how she was diagnosed with systemic lupus erythematosus and a rare T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder.

The performer of “Stranaca” added that they “will no longer do anything that doesn’t make me happy.”

“When I got sick, all I could think about was getting better so I could come back and be a part of THIS again, but I don’t even know what *this* is anymore and I want to crawl into a hole and I’m going back to it,” Halsey wrote.

The “Gasoline” hitmaker has yet to reveal the release date of her fifth studio album.
