Halyna Hutchins’ Mother Visits Late Cinematographer’s Grave 2 Years After Rust Shooting

Halyne Hutchins’ mother is marking the second anniversary of the late cameraman’s death on set at the age of 42.

On Saturday, Hutchins’ mother, Olga, visited Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles to see her daughter’s grave, accompanied by her family’s attorney, Gloria Allred. Video of Olga’s visit shared by ABC 13 shows her and Allred carrying flowers to the grave, as well as Olga crying as she looks at the grave itself.

Hutchins worked as a cinematographer on Alec Baldwin’s western film rust when she was shot and killed after a gun Baldwin was holding, which turned out to contain live rounds, went off during filming in New Mexico in October 2021.

The Hutchins family is involved in a civil lawsuit against Baldwin, 65, while a criminal investigation into the actor-producer’s role in the incident is still ongoing. Gunsmith on rustHannah Gutierrez-Reed, was charged with manslaughter in January and is expected to go on trial in February.

“Here’s a family that’s hurting, that’s in pain, that’s suffering,” Allred told reporters, per ABC 13. “Here was a real human being that was killed that day, and we’ll always remember Halyne.”

Baldwin was also charged with manslaughter along with Gutierrez-Reed in January, but New Mexico special prosecutors Kari Morrissey and Jason Lewis dismissed that charge in April, citing “new facts” in the case. Morrissey and Lewis said at the time that they reserved the right to charge Baldwin again; announced last Tuesday that they intend to present their case to a Santa Fe grand jury within the next two months.

“Following an extensive investigation over the past several months, additional facts have come to light that we believe demonstrate that Mr. Baldwin is criminally responsible for the death of Halyne Hutchins and the killing of Joel Souza,” the special prosecutors said in a statement.

“We believe the proper course of action is to allow the council of citizens of New Mexico to decide from here whether Mr. Baldwin should be held for criminal trial.”

Baldwin’s attorneys Luke Nikas and Alex Spiro of Quinn Emanuel told PEOPLE, “It is unfortunate that a terrible tragedy has turned into this wrongful prosecution. We will answer all allegations in court.”

Baldwin’s lawyers previously asked a judge to dismiss Hutchins’ family’s lawsuit against the actor in April.

“The loss of a daughter and a sister is undoubtedly painful under any circumstances,” Baldwin’s lawyers wrote in court documents, dated Thursday, April 13, obtained by PEOPLE. “Nevertheless, Plaintiffs—who were estranged from Halyne physically, financially, and emotionally for years before her death—have no viable cause of action against Defendants. This lawsuit is particularly flawed.”

At the time, Allred said in a statement obtained by PEOPLE that “it is abundantly clear under New Mexico law, which will apply in a California court, that [Baldwin] he is responsible for all the damage he has done to Halyne Hutchins’ entire family.”
