Harish Pengan is an Indian actor who works primarily in the Malayalam film industry. He made his debut in the Malayalam film industry in 2011 with the film “Note Out”. He died of liver-related diseases on May 30, 2023.

According to some sources, MK Haresh Kumar Nair was born in 1974 (age 49; time of death) in Thuruthissery, Nedumbassery, Ernakulam, Kerala, while other sources report that he was born in 1975 (age 48; time of death) time). He completed his schooling from Sadhana Mandir High School, Boralum, Secunderabad, Telangana. He pursued his bachelor’s degree in commerce from Mahatma Gandhi University (MG University), Athirampuzha, Kottayam, Kerala. His friends and family affectionately called him Harry.

Harish made his debut in the Malayalam film industry in 2011 with Kutty Naduvir’s directorial Note Out; the actor briefly played the role of a shop vendor. Harish played a villager in Kunjiramayanam, a film directed by emerging director Basil Joseph; the film was released in 2015. In 2016, Harish Pengan played the role of Tomy in Dileesh Pothan’s Maheshinte Prathikaaram. His character was loved by the audience and gave him a breakthrough in the film industry.
Later, he played the protagonist’s grandfather in the movie “Bee 2.5”. In 2019, he played the role of Velichappadu in Mamangam, a Malayalam period action film directed by M. Padmakumar. Later, he played the role of Anirudhan in the 2020 film Gauthamante Radham. In 2021, Harish wrote about the role of Bento Mash in the Malayalam film Anugraheethan Antony. Harish plays Kunjumon in the Malayalam comedy film “Jan. E. Man”, which was released in November 2021.
In 2022, he played security guard Gopalan in the comedy film “Priyan Ottathilanu” directed by Anthony Soni; this role was very popular with the audience. Later, Pengan explored the character of Rasheed in Anup Pandalam’s comedy film Shefeekkinte Santhosham. In 2023, the actor acted in the Malayalam film Charles Enterprises, which was released in theaters on May 19, 2023; this was his last film.

Rishi revealed in an interview that Harish complained of abdominal pain while leaving home for filming in early May 2023. Later, the actor was admitted to Amrita Hospital in Edapalli, Kochi, Kerala for treatment. Some reports suggest he had no history of liver-related disease. However, his condition was unstable and he was moved to a ventilator. Hospital authorities reportedly advised the family that as the actor’s health was rapidly deteriorating, a liver transplant was the only option to save his life. His twin sister Sreeja M. Nair agreed to be the donor and was a match. However, for financially strapped families, there is a high transplant fee, reportedly around Rs. 30 lakhs, is a daunting task. At first, the news of Peng’an’s admission was not made public in order not to worry his elderly mother, at the request of his family; however, they were forced to turn to the media and the public to raise funds for his transplant.
According to reports, many celebrities and civilians have donated money in various amounts, as the family holds out hope of saving his life; however, Harish’s condition has reportedly weakened due to some infections in his intestines, Later it spread to the liver. These complications took a huge toll on his health, and the transplant was put on hold due to infection. On May 30, 2023, Pengan’s condition deteriorated and he passed away at Amrita Hospital in Edapalli, Kochi, Kerala. Initially, it was announced that the actor’s last rites would be performed on May 31, 2023, at around 2:30 pm at his home in Thuruthissery, Nidubassery, Ernakulam; however, due to unexpected swelling of the body, the creation was postponed to May 31, 2023 at 1:30 pm.

- Later, when Pengan started busying himself in the Malayalam film industry, he rented his father’s hotel in his hometown.
- In an interview, when Harish spoke about his acting career, the actor revealed that he landed his first role by coincidence. Pengan noted that he met the writers of the Malayalam TV series “Kayamkulam Kochunni” during the early stages of filming; Harish confided his desire to act to the writers; the writers said that if there is a role suitable for him, they will contact the actor . Later, Harish was selected as Pengan.
- As the character of Pengan became popular, the actor came to be known as Harish Pengan. Speaking in an interview about his reaction to being recognized through his character’s name, the actor revealed that he was very proud of it, adding that it was a huge honour.
- Later, Harish met Benny Kattappana while shooting for the Malayalam TV series Pookkaalam. Benny has worked as a production director in the Malayalam film industry. Benny Katapana reportedly got Harish into the Malayalam film industry. The production director also recommended him to Malayalam director Dileesh Pothan. Pengan’s role in the film Maheshinte Prathikaaram directed by Dileesh Pothan became a milestone for actors in the Malayalam film industry.

- According to reports, many people criticized the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) for not coming forward to help the actor; but it was later clarified that the actor was not a member of the association and therefore the organization had some restrictions on helping him financially.
