He attended Yogi Arvind Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya classes in Delhi. Harsh grew up in a humble family and got hooked on acting at a very young age by watching Bollywood movies and TV shows. His parents could not afford acting lessons for him. So, his uncle enrolled him in Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra’s acting studio from 2005 to 2008, which launched him into acting and prepared him for a series of auditions in dancing, singing and acting Prepare. Harsh always avoided schooling and when he grew up, he participated in various local plays at Mandi House on Broadway in Delhi. In an interview, he recalled his first days in the theater, saying:

Harsh Mayar made his acting debut in the 2011 Indian Hindi children’s film I Am Kalam, in which he played the lead role of Chhotu (aka Kalam). Produced by the non-governmental charity Smile Foundation, the film tells the story of Chotu, a poor boy who forms an unlikely and uneasy friendship with the lonely son of an aristocrat. The film won various accolades and catapulted Harsh Mayal to fame. He was also nominated for the Color Screen Award for Best Child Artist (2012) for his role as Chotu.
