‘He doesn’t want to be there’ rant Strictly fans as they spot celeb ‘looking so unhappy’ on show

STRICTLY Come Dancing fans are convinced one celeb already wants to throw in the towel after accusing him of looking “so unhappy”.

This year’s 15 stars hit the dance floor with their Week 1 pros on Saturday night, and most seemed to be having a ball.

But the spectators watching around the eagle were convinced that one of the contestants ‘didn’t want to be there’.

Former England footballer and manager Paul Merson appeared in front of the cameras several times during the night with his professional partner Karen Hauer.

However, fans were unsure about his true desire to take part in the BBC One show.

Sharing his thoughts online, one said: “Paul really doesn’t want to be there!”

Another agreed: “I just said the same thing to my OH – are they blackmailing him into being here or something!”

Paul and Karen performed the American Smooth to the 90’s football anthem Vindaloo for their debut dance.

But even before they hit the ballroom, Paul was already complaining about his footballer-themed costume.

He moaned to Strictly’s Claudia Winkleman: “We look like we’re working on a boat.

“That’s what we look like. On a cruise ship…on a cruise ship. Look! Seriously!”

Ignoring his comments, Claudia replied, “We’re ready to go on that cruise with you. Are you ready? How do you feel about this dance?”

He replied nonchalantly, “Oh yeah, okay. Yeah.”

Paul was later shown walking down the street in jeans and a T-shirt, mimicking the music video for Fat Les’ 1998 song Vindaloo.

Just like in the music video, soccer balls were thrown behind him.

Paul was then thrown a Strictly Come Dancing glitter ball, which he quickly threw off camera.

After watching the clip, another viewer joked: “Paul throwing a disco ball is a meme of how he feels on the show.”

Paul and Karen danced their way up the track before getting a low score of 17.

This placed them second from the bottom of the table.

“I love Paul Merson, but he is not happy with the result!” another viewer remarked.

This is not the first time that Paul has shown his displeasure in front of the cameras.

During the show, he and Karen were told what song they were going to dance to, and he put his head in his hands.

But jumping to his defence, some fans blasted the Beeb for giving Paul “patronising routines”.

One angry viewer wrote on X: “Exactly! I vote for Paul Merson every week now after that ‘vindaloo’ music, I’m in stitches and encourage everyone to do the same.

“When someone agrees to work on this show, you should treat them with respect, not make fun of them IN THE FIRST WEEK.”
