- In 2017, the then Chief Minister of Jharkhand Raghubar Das invited Soren to participate in the “Jharkhand Global Investors Summit (GIS)”. However, Sauron declined the invitation, saying—
The summit was the Maha Chintan Shivir of land grabbers organized to grab the land of Adivasis, Morvadis and farmers of the state. “
- On August 25, 2022, the Election Commission (EC), in its recommendation to the Governor of Jharkhand, recommended that the Governor disqualify Hemant Soren as MLA under the Representation of the People Act, 1951. The recommendation was based on a stone mining allocation case in which Soren was found guilty of abusing his position in allocating himself a stone mining lease.
- On November 2, 2022, he was summoned by the Enforcement Directorate for questioning by the agency regarding illegal mining cases in the state.
- In early 2024, Hemant Soren faced controversy due to an investigation led by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). On January 29, the education department discovered a large amount of cash at his Delhi home while investigating a land fraud case worth Rs 600 crore. Soren had previously evaded an emergency room call and then disappeared, prompting a search for him. Additional security measures have been taken in Ranchi during this period. Soren, who was later found in Jharkhand state, later denied the charges, saying they were politically motivated and planned to challenge them in court.
On January 31, 2024, Hemant Soren was arrested by the Education Bureau after about seven hours of interrogation. Soren became the third Jharkhand chief minister to be arrested after his father Shibu Soren and Madhu Koda. On April 5, 2024, the ED filed charges against Hemant Soren, revenue officer Bhanu Pratap Prasad and two other government employees. On May 22, 2024, Soren withdrew his petition to the Supreme Court in which he requested the court to grant him interim bail and quash his arrest.
