A new Argylle image reveals a first look at Henry Cavill, sporting an interesting hairstyle, in his upcoming Apple TV+ movie. Cavill was cast in Argylle last summer, with the actor set to lead Matthew Vaughn’s new spy thriller. He’s joined by co-stars Dua Lipa, John Cena, Bryce Dallas Howard, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O’Hara, Sam Rockwell, Ariana DeBose, Rob Delaney, and Samuel L. Jackson, rounding out a star-studded cast for the Kingsman franchise director’s project.
Little is known about Argylle, but the movie is set to release on Apple TV+. It is based on the novel of the same name by Ellie Conway, which follows an amnesiac spy who has been tricked into believing he’s a best-selling novelist. However, when his memories start to return, he starts down a path of revenge. Conway’s novel will debut later this year; it isn’t yet clear when Argylle the movie will premiere on Apple TV+, but a late 2022 date isn’t out of the question.
Apple TV+ has released the first Argylle image (via Deadline), which reveals an official look at both Cavill and Lipa. The two are looking rather cozy, caught up in a dance at what looks like a nightclub. Perhaps more interesting than the dynamic between Cavill and Lipa is Cavill’s hair, now bigger and poofier than what fans are used to. Check it out below.
For many, Cavill remains a dream pick for the role of another spy: James Bond. He’s conquered comic book and fantasy realms between the DCEU and The Witcher, and now Argylle can help further Cavill’s presence in the spy genre. He previously made his case for being the next Bond in the 2015 action flick The Man From U.N.C.L.E. and was also the villain in 2018’s Mission: Impossible – Fallout. When it comes to Argylle, Vaughn said last year that watching Cavill in the film cemented the actor as his ideal James Bond. Even if he isn’t tapped as the next Bond, Argylle so far sounds like the perfect alternate project for Cavill.
The newly released Argylle image positions Lipa to be a femme fatale for Cavill’s wayward spy. Whether this intimate scene takes place before he loses his memories or after remains to be seen, but it’s clear there is a history between these two characters. With Vaughn’s name attached and a truly impressive ensemble on board, Argylle could be Apple TV+’s biggest original film yet, so expect a major promotional push as its release gets closer. That might not be for several months from now, but the streamer has already done the trick with this one image. This is a very intriguing first look, and it’ll be exciting to see what else is in store with Argylle.
