Furthermore, Herb Kohl remained single for the rest of his life. Herbert H. Kohl was born on February 7, 1935, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to a family of immigrants from Europe. He graduated from Washington High School in 1956 with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In 1958, he earned a master’s degree in business administration from Harvard Business School.
Kohl also worked as a real estate and stock market investor after graduating. Kohl served as a United States Senator for nearly 20 years until he decided not to run for the Senate in 2012. Sadly, the Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame inductee passed away on December 27, 2023 at the age of 88.

Kohl, a famous Wisconsin magnate, bought the Bucks to keep them from moving. Furthermore, he generously donated money from his wealth to civic and educational initiatives throughout his state. Kohl stood out as an unusual figure in the Senate, which is known for its ego. Herb worked quietly and without seeking praise, but he was successful on issues crucial to the state, especially milk legislation. Similarly, Kohl provided $25 million for the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s new sports stadium, which was renamed the Kohl Center.
In 1990, Kohl established the Herb Kohl Educational Foundation Achievement Award program, which provides annual awards to graduates, instructors and schools throughout Wisconsin. He even decided not to run for senator in 2012, stating,
“I am not the owner of this office. It belongs to the people of Wisconsin and there is something to be said for not being in office for a long time.”
