Here’s What’s Happening to Queen Elizabeth’s Dogs

The longest-reigning monarch in UK history – Queen Elizabeth II – tragically passed away on Thursday at the age of 96.

She’s been hugely popular during her more than 70-year reign, and now she’s left behind not only a nation and family to suffer, but also her loyal dogs!

Queen Elizabeth has always loved dogs, especially corgis, which she considers family. “My Corgis are my family,” said the queen! She – very often – is photographed with her beloved dogs.

Royal biographer Ingrid Seward wrote: “She loved animals and was extremely fond of dogs. “She’s always been like that, they were her first love and they’ll be her last.”

At the time of her death, the Queen had 4 dogs – 2 Pembroke Welsh Corgis (her favorite breed) Muick and Sandy, a cocker spaniel – Lissy and a Dorgi (Corgi-Dachshund mix) named Candy.

Now that the Queen is gone, the dogs, or at least corgis, will be adopted by the Duke and Duchess of York, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson (his ex-wife), CNN reports. It was Andrew who gave the corgi to his mother.

Surname[the corgis]will return to live at the Royal Lodge with the Duke and Duchess,” the BBC reported. “It was the Duchess who found the puppies the Duke had given to the Queen.”

Queen Elizabeth II had more than 30 dogs in her lifetime. Susan is her first dog, Pembroke Welsh Corgis, as a present for her 18th wedding anniversary. One of her many dogs – Willow – even appeared with the Queen in a James Bond film. The Queen’s immense love for corgis is fueled by their “wild energy and spirit”.
