A HIKER photographed a “ghostly figure” climbing a mountain in what turned out to be a rare phenomenon.
Thomas Swallow, 39, was walking ahead of his friends when he turned to see a figure hovering above the ground.

But actually he was looking at his own reflection in the Great End in the Lake District.
The phenomenon is a rare optical illusion known as a broken spectrum, where a large shadow is cast on a cloud or mist.
Thomas, from Manchester, said: “I was a bit taken aback. It’s really beautiful.
“It looks like a figure floating in the sky, it looks quite spiritual.
“It was a strange, surreal and really beautiful moment: I was looking at the ravine from the top, the sun was behind me and it was shining brightly.
“It was a cloudy day, so clouds were coming in and out of the top.
“I could see moisture particles in the air when I looked up and saw my shadow in the middle of the rainbow.
“I was in the moment and enjoying it thinking ‘I’ve never seen anything like this before’.”
He continued: “People said it was an amazing and beautiful shot and it looked like a figure floating up into the sky.
“I’m not religious, but I’m a little bit spiritual, and I didn’t think about how spiritual it was until I thought about it afterwards.”
Thomas and his friends Adam Maxwell (27) and Matthew Buck (39) then continued their six-hour hike.
They stopped and watched it for up to 15 minutes and took many photos of the illusion, seen in December.
Last month we told how a woman saw a creepy figure on her television screen.
Esmeralda is seen relaxing on her couch alone in the video, but when she turns the camera to the TV, it appears she’s not alone.
Last year, a mother was convinced her apartment was haunted after a ghostly figure appeared in the background of a photo she took with a friend.
Rebecca Glassborow, 30, said she couldn’t sleep after watching it.
