In an interview with Geo News TV series “Aik Din Geo Kay Sath”, Hira Mani talked about her weight loss story and said that her husband helped her lose weight. She said her husband’s taunts inspired her to lose 10 kilograms in three months. She said that it is okay to have a strict husband who always laughs at his wife for being overweight. This is how women stay in shape. But many people were outraged by her comments and criticized her. Her comments were considered insensitive and promoted body shaming.
Under cyber attack for irresponsible comments on Dua Zehra case
In April 2022, Hira Mani came under severe criticism for her comments on the Dua Zehra case. Dua Zehra is a young girl, age 17-18 years (as of April 2022), her parents filed a case of kidnapping against her in April 2022, but later it was discovered that Dua was not kidnapped but eloped from Karachi to Punjab and married Zaheer. Since Dua was a minor, it was a case of child marriage and she was sent to a child protection center. The next day, Hira Mani took to social media to express that she did not want Dua Zehra and Zaheer to part ways as netizens trolled her on social media. Even Baarwan Khiladi actor Khaqan Shahnawaz reacted to this and said:
The Dua Zehra case has progressed to the stage where DNA evidence is being used in court. This is no joke. She is a kidnapped child. Someone explain this to Hira Mani,” he added. People like her “need to go back to school or get psychological help because every time they open their mouths, they are hurting a human being in some way! ”
