I’ve tried a lot of home exercise equipment in my life — exercise bikes, ellipticals, the dubious “squat machine” and so on — but none of it has stuck. Within months, I’d be on Facebook Marketplace listing my latest fitness purchase, cursing myself for thinking this time would be different.
Given my history, I probably shouldn’t have bought a walking mat from Amazon, but I’m so glad I did. Turns out it is thatthe only piece of exercise equipment I’ve enjoyed using consistently for over a year and a half.

Bearing in mind the ghosts of fitness equipment past, I didn’t want to splurge on a treadmill, but I also didn’t want to buy something so “good value” that it would break. Amazon’s best-selling treadmills range from about $100 to over $2,000, and I ended up settling on a $400 model (currently $379 thanks to an onsite coupon), the Egofit Walker Pro.
Aside from the price, I loved that this treadmill had a five percent incline, was able to work my core and lower body, and was compact enough to store under my bed or couch when not in use. I looked through the reviews — almost all positive — and hit the Buy Now button. A few days later, it arrived (fully assembled, by the way).

The key to consistency was twofold. The first part was creating a habit. I tried to start most workdays on the treadmill for at least half an hour at a leisurely pace, and often found myself going much longer as I scrolled through emails and other superficial tasks that made time disappear. I’ve also encouraged myself to walk at a sweat-breaking pace by pairing the treadmill with new episodes of my favorite shows: when I’m engrossed in a story, the minutes fly by.
The second part is that I genuinely liked this activity. Using the previous equipment I bought felt like a chore to do, but walking was too easy not to do, and the boost in mood after the treadmill was addictive.
I’m so glad I finally found something I love to do and can stick with. I would recommend the Egofit Treadmill to anyone looking for an under desk treadmill with a slight incline. Ultimately, though, what works for everyone’s lifestyle, preferences and fitness levels varies – but I think almost anyone could benefit from adding a walking surface to their home or office.
