The tattooed thug, 53, served only half of his 18-month sentence for attacking his ex-girlfriend.

Hoganson, who starred in the 1980s cult film Empire State, was back in jail just two days later.

He allegedly slapped his ex-girlfriend after turning up at her house the day after he was released early under Labour’s prison plan.

Hoganson was also charged with violating a restraining order against the victim.

He appeared at Newcastle Magistrates’ Court on September 12 and pleaded guilty to one count of breaching a restraining order but denied the other.

Hoganson also denied charges of assault by beating and was remanded in custody ahead of a trial on October 30.

He was one of 1,700 inmates released early to help reduce prison overcrowding.

The lagos were filmed popping champagne and jumping into supercars as they enjoyed their freedom for the first time.

Sir Keir has come under fire for the controversial scheme, which has seen some prisoners released for less than half their sentences.

Concerns have grown that criminals will re-offend once they return to the streets.

Justice Minister Shabana Mahmood said measures had been taken to reduce the number of domestic abusers being acquitted due to widespread fear for the welfare of abuse survivors.

Hoganson was originally convicted in August last year after he was caught on doorbell video assaulting his ex-partner.

The actor was already under a restraining order when he showed up at her home and pushed her to the ground.

Hoganson was also filmed slapping the woman and throwing more punches during the terrifying attack.

He was sentenced to 18 months behind bars after admitting assault by beating and breaching a restraining order.

Hoganson was once a rising star in Hollywood – he played vagabond Pete in the crime thriller Empire State, set in London’s yuppie docklands, starring Oscar nominee Martin Landau.

But the struggling star slipped into a spiral of drug addiction and crime that led to more than 100 convictions.

In recent years, Hognason has shocked his appearance after covering the self-harm scars on his face with tattoos.
