Horacio Pagani was born on November 10, 1955 in Casilda, Argentina and grew up there. He is of Argentinian and Italian origin. He was born in a low-income family. His father, Luca, was an Italian baker, and his mother, Maria Pagani, was a housewife. All his life he was fascinated by cars, especially racing cars.
He wanted to become an automotive engineer when he grew up. He once believed that because he was from a rural area, he would not be able to pursue his engineering studies and thus would not be able to achieve his dream. Pagani maintained his optimism. Pagani established himself as a talented engineer after being hired by the world’s leading car manufacturer, Renault. He learned a lot about how to improve the bodywork of cars, especially racing cars. He got numerous opportunities to show his talent. Pagani later joined Lamborghini and started working as chief engineer. While at the company, he created the “Countach Evoluzione concept” while also working on the engineering of his car.
Pagani tried to convince Lamborghini to buy an autoclave to expand production of carbon components for the Evoluzione. However, the organization refused, claiming that Ferrari does not have an autoclave, nor does their company ‘Lamborghini’.
Unconvinced by this decision, in 1987 Pagani hired funds to purchase his autoclave. He resigned from the company in 1991. He founded his own consultancy ‘Modena Design’ which produces carbon fiber compounds for Formula 1 cars and prestigious clients such as Ferrari, Aprilia and Daimler.
When he was twenty years old, he designed and built his first “F3 racing car”, which he called the “Zonda”. He founded Pagani Automobili Modena in 1992.
