Horror as ‘beautiful, darling’ woman, 22, dies on Christmas Day after quad bike smash as men, 29 & 30, arrested

The family of a 22-year-old woman who died after a horrific crash on Christmas Day have paid moving tributes to her after two men were arrested.

Gracie Vater is believed to have fallen from her quad bike after it overturned shortly after 2pm on Saturday 23 December.

The shocking accident happened in Whitehouse Lane in the Cotswolds village of Shipton Moyne, Gloucestershire.

Emergency crews were called to the tragedy after Gracie fell, before being dragged down a narrow lane surrounded by farm fields and woodland.

The 22-year-old was rushed to Southmead Hospital in Bristol by ambulance but tragically died from her injuries on Christmas Day.

Two suspects, aged 29 and 30, from the Cotswolds, were questioned in custody on suspicion of causing death or grievous bodily harm by dangerous driving.

The pair have been released on bail with conditions to return to police in February, pending further enquiries.

In a moving tribute, Gracie’s family said she was “a village girl with the biggest heart”.

The tribute read: “We as a family are absolutely devastated to have lost our beautiful darling Gracie.

“A cherished and beloved daughter, sister, granddaughter and aunt.

“She she was the kindest, most caring and most beautiful soul inside and out, and would help anyone who needed her help. She was loved by everyone who met her.

“A peasant woman with a big heart and a great love for animals, especially dogs, pigs and cows.

“Our lives will never be the same without her, but we are comforted by the fact that Gracie is with her beloved dad.

“We ask that all of Gracie’s family be afforded privacy during this terrible time.”

The horrific accident happened less than two miles from Highgrove House where Charles and Camilla like to spend a lot of time.

Police said one man is believed to have fled the scene on a quad bike.

But he was later found and arrested after a search involving a police helicopter.

Another man was also arrested.

One of the men was also arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice, driving under the influence of drugs, without a license and insurance.
