Emergency crews raced to the scene after reports of concern for one person to Police Scotland, discovering the bodies shortly after their arrival.

The force said the deaths were being treated as unexplained and a post-mortem would be carried out in due course.

They also said that the couple’s relatives are being supported by specialist officers.

A neighbour, who did not want to be named, told the Daily Record: “The little girl was lovely and very sweet.”

Another resident described the incident as “tragic”, saying: “The house was dark and the curtains were closed most of the time.

“I think they wanted to keep to themselves.”

Police locked down the area while the house was taped off and forensics officers took to the street.

A large blue forensics tent was erected in the garden of the house as the police officers in the picture guarded the property.

The cordon was also extended to cover part of the car park around 5.30pm on Monday night.

Chief Inspector Elaine McArthur-Kerr, local area commander, added: “We understand that this incident could be very distressing and worrying for people living in this community and we would ask anyone with any concerns to speak to us.

“Police will remain in the area while we investigate and anyone with any concerns or information can contact those officers.”

Locals said they could not access parts of the plan after the police sealed it off.

One resident told Edinburgh Live they noticed firefighters forcing their way into the property at around 4pm, and were drawn to the scene after hearing police sirens.

They said they saw the house, the back garden and part of the street taped off by the police.

‘SERIOUS’ INCIDENT

A local believes fire crews had to break down the door in the “serious” incident.

It is learned that the family recently moved to the street.

A large police force surrounded a house near Parkhead Primary School today.

A local authority spokesman told The Scottish Sun: “Apart from the proximity to the reported incident, we have reassured parents and pupils that this incident has no connection to Parkhead Primary School.”

When asked if other students are also receiving support, they said: “We will take all necessary measures when additional details are provided to us.”
