How Britney Spears Is Relishing Life Now: Tea Parties, Playing with Her Dogs and ‘Belly Laughing’ at Friends (Exclusive)

Britney Spears finds joy in the simple things in life.

Ahead of the publication of his long-awaited memoir The woman in memusic icon, 41, opens up to PEOPLE about her life today and what’s keeping her busy during her nearly two-year hiatus after her conservatorship was terminated in November 2021.

“I’m a simple girl,” Spears told PEOPLE exclusively in a new interview conducted via email. “I really like people. I love God, I still love my family and close friends, I love tea parties and dinner parties. My friend Cade [Hudson] he takes me to dinner where I meet the most creative people whom I admire and who make me laugh out loud.”

After completing conservatorship, Spears says she’s still “learning this new freedom,” which she admits is “challenging at times.”

But she finds joy in everyday moments, whether it’s “playing with my dogs [or] watching the episodes Friends and belly laughs,” she says. “I love, I love to travel and explore. When I was on tour, I would be in town one day and then the next. To experience the cultures in the cities I visit.”

Spears is still learning to navigate life after nearly 14 years in conservatorship. Along the way, she expressed gratitude for her “amazing friends.”

In September, the “Toxic” singer took to Instagram to give fans a glimpse of her love for those in her inner circle and the added importance of “self-love.”

“I’m so lucky to have great friends,” Spears wrote alongside pictures of her and a male friend. “Positive affirmations are important to me right now !!! I’m saying this because I’m going through a divorce and I have to tell my past in a book… let’s just say it’s not easy !!! Just saying !!!”

The woman in me is Britney Spears.

Today, as Spears admitted, she’s taking things “one at a time” and “learning to breathe,” with self-love being “so incredibly important” to her.

“I woke up and just cried because I felt grateful to be in such a beautiful place,” she added in a recent post. “Then I thought of my relationship with Instagram at the moment…addictive!!! But when other people’s opinions affect you, that’s when people give up.”

As for Spears’ friends, her admiration for her friends extends to some celebrities. Earlier this month, the superstar was photographed with Colombian musicians J Balvin, Maluma, and the post gave a glimpse of the fun moment.

“Who is like me in love?” Maluma, 29, wrote an Instagram caption that showed Balvin and Spears hugging at a table while Maluma sat with his arms crossed and a straight face.

Balvin, 38, commented below the picture: “Oh God hahahahahahahaha I can’t get over it.”

Spears later shared her own photos, writing, “Holy shit, it just hit me… I can’t believe I met these two !!! Shit!🔥”
