It was recently reported that former Kerela CM, Oommen Chandy, has passed away at the age of 79 after a long illness. Earlier, before his death, Chandy was undergoing treatment in Bangalore for the past few months. The news spread across all social media platforms and was shared by multiple users. The tragic news of his death was confirmed by his son through a Facebook post that read ‘Appa has passed away’. The Kerela Indian National Congress unit remembered Cahndy as one of Kerela’s most popular and dynamic leaders. INC Kerela said that they are extremely sad to say goodbye to our most beloved leader and former CM Shri Oommen Chandy. They went on to state that Chandy was one of Kerela’s most popular and dynamic leaders and was loved by generations and sections of the population. The INC paid its last respects, prayers and condolences to the soul of the deceased and remembered him as a champion of development, democracy and secularism. Furthermore, the current Kerela CM Pinarayi Vijayan also commented on the death of Oommen Chandy, saying that the former was a capable administrator and someone who was highly involved in the lives of many. It is known that he served two terms as Kerele CM from 2004 to 2006 and from 2011 to 2016. Oommen Chandy represented his Puthuppally constituency for the last five decades. He was the longest-serving member of the Kerala Legislative Assembly and the only Indian Chief Minister to receive a public service award from the United Nations.
