How Did Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce Meet? All the People Who May Have Played ‘Cupid’ in Their Romance

Details continue to emerge about the early beginnings of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s relationship.

The relationship between the pop superstar and the NFL champion has been visible since their romance was announced in October 2023.

And the two had an incredible week at the top of their games in February 2024, with Swift breaking the record for the most Album of the Year Grammys shortly before she left for her Eras Tour dates in Tokyo — and then turned right to watch Kelce how he wins the Super Bowl (and congratulates him with a kiss on the field) a week later.

The couple has certainly proven their commitment to supporting each other amid their busy work schedules. But who connected Swift and Kelce in the first place?

In a candid interview for the cover WSJ magazineIn the December/January issue, the NFL superstar shared how his romance with the singer came about after attending her Eras tour in July.

During his previous episode New heights with Jason and Travis Kelce podcast, Kelce revealed that he had planned to give Swift his fingers via a friendship bracelet when she performed at Arrowhead Stadium, but didn’t get the chance.

Luckily for Kelce, there was an “invisible streak” leading him to Swift: he said WSJ. Magazine he “had someone play Cupid” on his behalf.

Swift also gave further insight into the early days of their courtship when she was named TimePerson of the Year 2023 — and Kelce recently shed some more light on their dating timeline.

The timeline of Swift and Kelce’s relationship began in July 2023, when the NFL football star was spotted on her Eras Tour at Arrowhead Stadium where he plays football for the Kansas City Chiefs. The football star has been seen watching the show from his private box as well as exchange of friendship bracelets with fans inside the hall.

Although Kelce planned to give Swift a friendship bracelet with his phone number on it, the two didn’t actually connect after the show. “I was disappointed that she doesn’t talk before or after her performances because she has to save her voice for the 44 songs she sings, so I was a little upset that I didn’t get to give her one of the bracelets I made for her,” Kelce explained in his podcast.

Although that didn’t work out, Kelce explained in November 2023 that after a failed attempt to get her number, he enlisted the help of people close to Swift to get her attention. “There were definitely people she knew who knew who I was, in her corner [who said]: Oh! Did you know it was coming? I had someone play Cupid,” Kelce said WSJ. Magazineadding that he eventually found out from Swift when she contacted him directly.

Kelce added that several members of Swift’s family even helped him get her attention. “She’s probably going to hate me for saying this, but…when she came to Arrowhead, they gave her a big locker room as a locker room, and her little cousins ​​took pictures…in front of my locker,” He said.

For starters, both Kelce and Swift are dating actor Miles Teller. In 2022, Kelce joined Teller and Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes for golf practice ahead of the American Century Championship. Meanwhile, Teller previously starred in Swift’s video for “I Bet You Think About Me” alongside his wife, Keleigh Sperry. The pair also attended Swift’s Eras Tour in New Jersey alongside football star Aaron Rodgers in May 2023.

Plus, one of Swift’s backup dancers on the Eras Tour has a fun connection to the Kansas City Chiefs. Kameron Saunders, who gained an online following for his entertaining “Bejeweled” dance during a concert, is the brother of football player Khalen Saunders, who played for the Kanas City Chiefs with Kelce from 2019-2022.

Another person who could have played matchmaker for Swift and Kelce is NFL anchor Erin Andrews. In fact, Andrews previously asked Swift to “please try our friend Travis” during an August episode of her podcast. “He’s fantastic,” Andrews said at the time, adding, “Taylor, I know we’re not best friends, we’re not even friends, but I consider you one. Tell us this. Go on a date with this guy. Do it for America.”

After Swift and Kelce really connected, Andrews reflected on the podcast moment during Late Night with Seth Meyers, joking that she played a key role in their romance. “Travis was very open about not meeting her. And so we were just really honest because we love him. We’re good friends of his and we were just like, ‘Taylor, date this guy. I mean, it looks good,’” Andrews told the host. “He’s just such a great, great guy. And so we put it out there and they teamed up. Of course, now we get all the credit,” she added.

Additionally, some fans speculated about a possible relationship via Kansas City Chiefs superfan Jason Sudeikis, who was spotted playing Uno with the singer at one of Quest’s soirees in August, shortly before the Swift/Kelce romance rumors began. While Sudeikis is on good terms with the team (who recently donated auction items to his Thundergong charity event!), he neither confirmed nor denied the rumours, saying Hollywood Reporter, “I was grateful to Taylor, I was just hanging out, coming to two nights of performances [in Kansas City] …Little did I know that just a few months later she would be our adopted daughter. I don’t blame her for wanting to hang out here more, I don’t blame her for wanting to hang out with Travis. He’s a good egg.”

While it’s unlikely Swift’s BFF Selena Gomez had a hand in their romance, fans discovered footage of the Rare Beauty founder attending the same Big Slick 2019 Softball game as Kelce. In the clip, Gomez and Kelce stand just a few steps apart as they greet the camera. “Is that Travis Kelce?! Invisible wires are invisible wires!!” one commenter wrote.

Thanks to their “Cupid,” Swift eventually reached out to Kelce and things took off from there. “She told me exactly what was going on and how I was lucky enough to make her come to me,” Kelce recalled. WSJ. Magazine about their first exchange.

After the conversation, the two met in person in New York. “I knew we could have a nice dinner and, like, a conversation, and whatever goes from there, goes from there,” Kelce said of their first date.

The two later fueled romance rumors when Swift publicly cheered for Kelce at his Kansas City Chiefs football game at Arrowhead Stadium in September 2023. However, in her candid interview with TimeSwift revealed that they were already a couple by that point.

She noted that they started dating right after “Travis said very nicely [her] on his podcast,” which she joked was “metal as hell.”

“So we actually had a significant amount of time that no one knew about, which I’m grateful for because we got to know each other,” Swift continued. “I think some people think that’s when they saw our first date game? We would never be psychotic enough to have a hard time starting a first date,” Swift added.

In February 2024, Kelce further clarified that the two had been seeing each other for about a month before she attended her first game, calling their time together a “crazy, crazy ride.”

After attending a few more games with her famous friends, Swift and Kelce went public with their relationship the following month when they were photographed holding hands in New York after their Saturday night live look.
