After a tragic car accident in Los Angeles, Anne Heche was recently hospitalized and placed in the intensive care unit. The actress is said to have been driving her blue Mini Cooper before it crashed into the garage of an apartment complex on Friday. Soon after, she fled the scene at high speed and crashed into another private property, engulfing the car in flames. According to CNN, it took firefighters more than an hour to “reach, contain, and eventually extinguish the tenacious fire inside the badly damaged home.”
Anne Heche suffered severe burns and was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition, but no one else was injured. After Heche rushed into the property, a neighbor named David Manpearl told the Daily Mail he helped the owners and their pets escape.
He then returns to help Heche, but is forced to flee when her car is completely engulfed in flames:
“I tried to talk to her a few times, asking if she was okay, but she didn’t answer, so I had to get closer.” I managed to open the back door and climb halfway inside. When I asked her if she was okay this time, she said no.”
Manpearl said he initially believed Heche died from the fire because she was completely “burnt out”:
“I’m sure the driver was dead. That she blew up. It took firefighters at least 30 minutes to put out the fire, free the vehicle and get it out.”
According to Anna Heche’s ex-boyfriend, actor Thomas Jane, it is likely that the actress will “get over” the situation:
“My thoughts and prayers go out to Anne, one of the true geniuses of her generation.” Thank God no one else was hurt.”
Another source close to the actress told CNN that Hache is in intensive care and is “lucky to be alive”. According to the source, “serious burns and a long recovery time” await her, but she is now in a stable condition.
