David McCullough, a famous American novelist, died on August 7, 2022 at the age of 89. His family announced his death on August 8 via his Facebook page. McCullough died in Hingham, Massachusetts, according to the release. At the time of his death, he was “surrounded by his five children”.
McCullough was a two-time Pulitzer Prize winner and recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2006. His work covers a wide range of subjects, including the Brooklyn Bridge, the Panama Canal, the Wright Brothers, and others, making him one of the most famous historians of his time.
Simon & Schuster CEO Jonathan Karp paid tribute to the author in an official statement:
“National Treasure David McCullough.” For millions of readers, his writings brought history to life. Through his biographies, he vividly portrayed the noblest aspects of the American spirit.”
McCullough died less than two months after his wife Rosalee Barnes died.

In 2006, McCullough received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor, from then-President George W. Bush. On the personal front, he married Rosalee Barnes in 1954. Their five children outlived their now deceased parents.
