In Elden Ring, players can find the Ornamental Straight Sword hidden in the Lands Between to acquire a weapon that deals fast attacks of holy damage. This sword can be a powerful choice early in the game as it can be unlocked as soon as players begin their adventure. Both the Ornamental Straight Sword and the Golden Beast Crest Shield are rewards for defeating the tutorial boss, the Grafted Scion.
Players will first face the Grafted Scion during the game’s tutorial at the Chapel of Anticipation. The game is designed for players to lose this fight initially, although it is technically possible to win the battle the first time. Luckily, players will get another chance at the tutorial boss in Elden Ring by going through a portal on the Four Belfries, which is found West of the Academy of Raya Lucaria. The fight should be more manageable the second time around as players will have a higher level and better weapons.
At the Four Belfries, players will discover several portals that require an Imbued Sword Key to activate. First, players will find an Imbued Sword Key inside the treasure chest hidden at the top of the hill. Because this key will only allow players to open one of the portals, they should search for the portal adorned with the message “Precipice of Anticipation.” Using the Imbued Sword Key on this portal will transport players to the Chapel of Anticipation, where they will find the Grafted Scion waiting for round two of the boss fight in Elden Ring.
Elden Ring: Grafted Scion Boss Fight and Rewards
The boss Grafted Scion tends to jump and move around the arena quickly, and it will swing its many swords attempting to kill the player. To defeat this boss, players should continue moving around the arena to dodge their attacks and wait for its repeated attack pattern to finish. While the boss pauses between moves, players should run in and land a few hits before retreating to a safe distance. At the halfway point in the fight, Grafted Scion will coat two of its swords in magic, increasing their damage output. Additionally, the boss will add a new significant jump to its moveset. Players should continue with the previous strategy of dodging and waiting for the right moment to land hits. Once the boss is defeated, players will be rewarded with the Ornamental Straight Sword and the Golden Beast Crest Shield weapons in Elden Ring.
Once players obtain the Ornamental Straight Sword, they can unlock its weapon skill,” Golden Tempering.” Players should dual-wield the sword to cause the Tarnished to use its twin blade and activate the weapon skill. Once the weapon skill is active, the swords will be engulfed in holy, enabling them to deal high amounts of elemental damage when they successfully land a hit. The Ornamental Straight Sword works especially well with Strength and Dexterity builds, and it performs best during melee combat. Additionally, this weapon can be buffed further using Ashes of War or upgraded by using Somber Smithing Stones in Elden Ring.
