There’s a stark difference between the icy Danish tundra and England’s rolling green hills. Players can only imagine what their Vikings must be thinking, especially Sigurd and Eivor. Like any good modern open world game, Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla Capture those truly picturesque moments with a fully equipped photo mode. This guide will walk players through how to turn on Photo Mode, how to use it, and where photos are stored.

Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla – Photo Mode

Accessing Photo Mode is very simple. On consoles, players simply click L3 and R3 at the same time. This will freeze the game and allow a 360 degree view of Eivor and the surrounding area. Players can use this opportunity to capture Eivor as he/she is about to dismember low-level Saxons or assassinate high-level targets. Players can choose to take a more scenic approach and capture their Nordic heroes while gazing at the British treeline.

In photo mode, the player will first be prompted to place the camera. This will allow them to zoom in and move around to capture the perfect photo. It’s worth noting that when players zoom into Eivor’s face, his attention to detail is incredible. Once in place, players will enter edit mode where they can access 8 different filters as well as 10 different slider settings to choose from. They can switch freely between editing and positioning modes. Unless you have training in photo editing, setting these up will require some trial and error. For example, Depth of Field is a really cool slider, but keep in mind that the image will focus wherever the cursor is. Players must manipulate the right stick to edit these sliders while keeping focus on the left stick. Navigate the different sliders by moving up and down on the directional pad and adjusting the sliders with the right stick. Different filters can be selected using the left and right bumpers.

Finally, once players have composed and adjusted their image, they will want to preview the image (triangle on PS4) to see how it looks without the editor HUD. Finally satisfied, press X to save the photo. Where these photos are saved in the game is a bit puzzling. Different sources say it’s in the game files, while others claim the photo is saved to the capture library. To be on the safe side, and to make sure you save these images, use the Share button on your controller and save them as screenshots while previewing (this is what happens when Ghost of Tsushima).

If saved via “Take a Photo”, it may appear on other players’ world maps. The community can like other players’ photos by opening them on the world map and pressing the up key on the D-Pad. No one expected a Viking to become an Instagram model, but hey, everyone likes a bit of social media influence, even in 873 AD.
