Trista Sutter and her husband Ryan Sutter make time for each other on their 21st wedding anniversary after a busy year.
When asked about their plans for the Dec. 6 milestone, the former Bachelor , 52, tells PEOPLE they haven’t made any big plans yet.
“It’s actually funny because we were just talking about it and we don’t know!” she says. “Life is so crazy we could stay [in and] cuddling together on the couch and watching our favorite show.”

Ryan Sutter marks the end of a tropical family vacation with wife Trista and their two children: ‘Adios’
The anniversary comes less than a month after Trista revealed on Instagram on November 15 that she was filming the upcoming season Special forces: the toughest test in the world in May when Ryan, 50, shared posts on social media, fueling rumors of their relationship.
“Was it a divorce/nervous breakdown/midlife crisis/death/trial divorce in May?! Not unless you call it that Special Forces: The World’s Toughest Test, Season 3! 😜,” wrote Trista with the trailer for the third season of the series.
“Thankfully, none of those things have anything to do with my experience filming the show, but as you can see in the trailer, the angel on my shoulder has had to face some pretty big battles,” she continued. “You’ll have to tune in in January to see how the battles unfold, but for now I’m so grateful to be a part of this epic adventure. ❤️.”
Ryan Sutter says he and wife Trista are doing ‘the best they can’ after the cryptic revelations
In May, speculation began about the couple’s relationship status when Ryan shared on Instagram that he wanted Trista to spend Mother’s Day with him and their children Maxwell, 16, and Blakesley, 17. Later that month, he announced that he wished he could talk to Trist, but he knew she needed time to “rediscover herself.”
“I’d really like to hear your voice – just for a minute,” he said at the time. “I’ve called so many times without much to say, not realizing how lucky I was or how much I’d miss out on if she was gone.”
Shortly after the cryptic announcement, he clarified that Trista was “fine” and that they were doing “great” as a couple.
“Trista is at a place in her life where she is searching a bit. An opportunity arose that could help her in that search,” he explained. “With the support of her family, she took it. Part of that process means that she is temporarily unavailable to us. I miss you. We miss him.”

BachelorRyan Sutter says he and wife Trista have had a ‘long year’, but nothing ‘really bad’ is going on
During the performance at The most dramatic podcast ever with Chris Harrison in June, Ryan noted that social media posts had “blown up in my face and backfired” before calling the response “crazy.”
“I’ll go months without posting and then all of a sudden I’ll get in the mood and I’ll post something,” he explained. “And this was a special thing that Trista did, and it was the end of the school year. It’s been a long year for us, the move and a lot of things going on. So whatever was the culmination of everything that happened, and I was in that kind of place, so I sent it.”
Ryan assured fans that he would not air the couple’s dirty laundry online if there were bigger issues involved.
“If something really, really bad was happening in my life, I wouldn’t tell anyone,” Ryan explained. “Like, that’s the other side of me that you probably know that most of my personal life is pretty private.”
