Kate Middleton supports students and their mental health.
On Wednesday, the Princess of Wales visited the university to see how students were settling in after the start of the new term.
The outing came a day after World Mental Health Day, when Kate gave a speech about the importance of mental wellbeing in young people. Kate and husband Prince William hosted a forum and series of workshops with young people on Tuesday to mark World Mental Health Day.
Continuing their work in mental health, the couple embarked on independent trips on Wednesday, with Kate, 41, traveling to Nottingham and William, 41, promoting the welfare of emergency workers in Milton Keynes.

Kate’s visit to Nottingham Trent University, which, along with its neighbor in the English Midlands, the University of Nottingham, encourages proactive management of the mental health of its students. During the trip, Kate, who is an alumna of the University of St. Andrews (where she also met William!), she joined the Freshers Fayre-style exhibition to meet students and colleagues who support students with their mental health. She then participated in wellness sessions.

The mum-of-three held a discussion with three students about peer mentoring and then took part in a ‘circle step’, which is part of the university’s ‘Welcome Workshop’. It is designed to encourage students to share experiences to help them build confidence, proactively manage their wellbeing and raise awareness of the wide range of support networks available to them.

Kate also learned about an initiative the university uses to measure student engagement in the course. When a student stops engaging, it can be a sign that the student is struggling and this will prompt the university or mentors to reach out and help them find the right support.
“The Princess is passionate about ensuring that young people have the right tools to look after their mental wellbeing, particularly around understanding and managing their own emotions,” her office at Kensington Palace said. “It is also focused on encouraging young people to build key protective factors such as healthy relationships and communities around them that will help them lay a stronger foundation as they move through life.”

While in Nottingham, William headed to the Milton Keynes Blue Light Hub to demonstrate the importance of mental health support from emergency services. As a former air ambulance pilot, William has experienced first-hand some of the challenges emergency teams face and has campaigned for years for emergency workers to be equipped with the support and skills to protect their mental health and build resilience.
