Huge fire erupts near national stadium as locals urged to ‘close windows’ and smoke billows across city

A huge fire broke out near the national stadium, because people are called to close windows to remain safe from smoke.

Firefighters fought desperately with a flame in Cardiff early this morning, while the smoke broke into the air near the princess stadium and spread across the city.

The fire began in a sheltered cottage opposite the site of 74,500 seats, which caused serious damage to the property.

No one was injured in hell, which broke out around midnight.

But large parts of the building – including the roof – were badly damaged.

And the residents of Cardiff Bay are invited to take direct precautions for their safety.

Holly Chadd, who was staying in Holiday Inn opposite, said the flame broke as she went to bed.

She said, “I was staying at the hotel and as I went to bed, there was a lot of red and blue lights opposite.

“I couldn’t see the fire so I thought it had to be a big police surgery.

“I decided to get out of the side and walk to the river.

“From there it was easy to see the fire and the amount of work that the fire brigade put in fighting flames.”

One person living in Cardiff Bay said, “We could feel smoke inside at 2am, even when the windows were closed here.

“You can see the smoke in the sky this morning.”

Another life in the Cardiff Central said, “I can feel a great deal of smoke.

“The smoke is thick and hovering on Cardiff.

“Looks like there is a fire somewhere in the town of Cardiff.

“Please close the windows and place on air purifiers if you have them.”
