About the attention to detail seen in the film, costume designer Trish Summerville told PEOPLE that outfitting the large cast was a “huge undertaking” for the creative team.
For example: “We made school uniform buttons that are the Capitol insignia, so that’s 8,000 to 10,000 buttons that you make and cast.”
What’s more? Summerville explains, “If you’re going to have 200 or 500 students, you have to make two to three times as many costumes because you don’t know the sizes of the people; if you have 500 backgrounds [actors]you need about 2,000 pairs of shoes to do that for people.”
The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes in cinemas on 17.11.
