WAVES of disgust filled Rosie Nelson’s stomach as she inserted the SD card into her laptop and the image of the blond boy flashed on the screen.
No older than ten years old, the boy was forced by the woman to perform grotesque sexual acts, a harrowing scene that immediately tore apart Rosie’s ordinary life.

That’s because, terrifyingly, the card belonged to her partner of four years, Peter Loram, a man she loved dearly and who took on the role of ‘stepfather’ to her 15-year-old son Ollie*.
Only now, he was far from being the romantic partner she was sure she knew – Loram (42) was actually a secret pedophile and was due to return to the family home at any moment.
Recalling the horrifying discovery, Rosie, 52, said: “A little box popped out and it was a little boy with blond hair doing something with a woman.
“I must have seen about two seconds of footage and I’ll never forget it as long as I live. Never.

“I felt so disgusting and unclean. If I could peel my skin and bleach it, I would.
“He was extremely young.”
Heart racing, Rosie immediately removed the SD card from the computer.
“I convinced myself that I just didn’t get it right, that there must be something else to it and that it must have been a joke,” she says.
“I was so shocked and horrified by what I saw.”
Unable to make out what she had unearthed, Rosie re-inserted the card to be sure and then the whole shocking truth was revealed – her partner was living an unimaginable double life.
My parents are brother and sister
It wasn’t just one photo, the card was full of indecent pictures and videos, but Loram didn’t serve a single day behind bars for his heinous crimes.
“I felt physically ill,” says Rosie. “All I could think about were those poor kids and I just couldn’t believe I was with someone like that.”
When divorced Rosie started messaging Loram, 42, on dating site Plenty of Fish back in 2016, there were no red flags.
I convinced myself that I just didn’t get it right, that there must be something else to it and that it must be a joke.

Animal lover Rosie, whose first marriage lasted 17 years, described him as a ‘gentle giant’, if not too good to be true.
“What initially attracted me to him was his love for nature, I really liked that,” she says.
“He was gentle and seemed to be a very nice person.
“On our first date we went to Holden, a beautiful area in Devon, for a walk and a coffee.
“I left with the impression that he was this gentle giant, really beautiful natured, full of love and kind soul.”
Rosie recalls that the relationship “went pretty steadily from then on” and six weeks later, after introducing Loram to her parents, he met her son.

“I haven’t introduced them for a long time,” adds Rosie, a hypnotherapist.
“When they met, I don’t think Ollie was particularly interested and Pete didn’t seem particularly interested either.
“It didn’t matter to me, and as far as I’m concerned, Ollie had and already has an amazing father, so he didn’t need another one.
“Dating was more for me, I wanted to find someone I could settle down with.”
Nine months later, Loram and Rosie discussed moving in together, an arrangement Rosie says her son was happy with.
I noticed that the card reader was in the box with the old chargers and MP3 players, again that was strange to me, why would it be there?

Speaking as part of Life Stories, Fabulous’ new YouTube series documenting the extraordinary lives of ordinary people, Rosie explains: “It was a very happy relationship at first.
“Of course, we can all say in hindsight, I think we were still quite separate in many ways, but everything seemed perfectly normal.”
That was until May 2020, a few days after the couple’s fourth anniversary, when Rosie made a horrifying discovery and her life with Loram was ruined.
Recalling the details of that awful day, Rosie says: “I was at home with Ollie and Pete was out at work.
“I just got a new credit card and to activate it I had to put it in the card reader.
“If I hadn’t sought him out, I might never have known what I know today.”
Usually the card reader was kept in the couple’s shared office, but when Rosie searched their desk drawer, it was gone.
“It felt weird,” explains Rosie.
“I noticed that the card reader was in the box with the old chargers and MP3 players, again that was strange to me, why would it be there?
“When I looked at the back of it, I noticed something inside it.”
Spotting the SD card, Rosie became suspicious: “At first I thought he was looking at pornography,” she says.
‘Some joke’
But the truth was far worse when the image of a blond boy came into view.
“I was so shocked and horrified by what I saw,” she says.
“I convinced myself that I just didn’t get it right, that there must be something else to it and that it must be a joke.
“I sat there for a while and made the decision that I had to return the card, I had to be sure.
“A box appeared containing many different types of files, all with different names.
“The file titles were absolutely horrible.
“I ripped the card out of my laptop and I just didn’t know where to go.”
Every parent’s worst nightmare
Reflecting on what she witnessed, it quickly dawned on Rosie that the pedophile lived under the same roof as her teenage son.
What she had to do next is every parent’s worst nightmare.
“I had to do the worst thing I’ve ever had to do in my life,” she says.
“I had to call my son downstairs and tell him what I had discovered and then I had to ask him if Peter had ever touched him or acted inappropriately.
“Thank God he never had.”
Rosie called the police, but with 911 on the way and Loram due home any minute, she knew she couldn’t let him in.
She recalls: “I didn’t want to see him and I certainly didn’t want him in the house.”
“I locked all the doors and told Ollie to stay out of sight.
“Our house has a glass porch so we could see when he came home.
“We could hear him knocking on the door, calling my name and ringing the bell, but I didn’t answer until the police arrived.”
A week after that I was stuck with the image of that little boy in the video. He would go everywhere with me and I just couldn’t get rid of him

Loram was arrested by the local police, but after spending a night in jail he was released on bail, forbidden to go anywhere near Rosie or her son.
Officers searched Rosie’s home and found 240 videos and 204 images that Loram had downloaded from the dark web.
The images were of children between the ages of two and 15 and were so explicit that they were classified as “Category A”.
Meanwhile, Rosie says she quickly became a shell of her former self, developing a speech impediment and turning to alcohol to cope.
“Immediately after that, I wasn’t functioning as a human being,” she says.
“I didn’t sleep and I started stuttering.
“A week after that I was stuck with the image of that little boy in the video.
“He would go everywhere with me and I just couldn’t get rid of him.
“The only thing that numbed it a bit was the alcohol, so for the first two weeks I just drank in the hope of getting rid of those thoughts.”
A son in danger
At the time, Rosie was training as a hypnotherapist and reached out to her network of friends in the industry to help her.
“They worked with me on various therapeutic techniques that helped me get rid of that image,” she says.
“I was very lucky to have that network.”
But Loram’s betrayal cut deep and left Rosie with trust issues.
“I didn’t really think I would be able to trust anyone anymore,” she admits.
“I certainly didn’t think I would ever have another relationship.
“Having already put my son in such danger, it seemed out of the question.”
Bizarre request
Rosie recently remarried, but admits that finding love again wasn’t easy.
“I was very reluctant to date again and kind of forced myself to do it,” she says.
“I’d be sitting in front of someone and they’d seem really nice, but Peter seemed really nice too.
“I went out casually and wasn’t too interested, but then I met a really nice guy.
“We started out just walking our dogs together, and then four years later he proposed. We got married in September.
“Bizarre, Peter friend requested my new husband on Facebook under a different name the day after the wedding.”
Brave Rosie nevertheless found the strength to face Loram one last time many months after his arrest.
“I saw Peter again once, before the trial,” she says.
“Our dog died and he asked me if I wanted to be sprinkled with ashes.
“It was a terrible situation, but I loved that dog and that’s why I left.
“It was really hard. I was actually quite scared. I simply had nothing to say to him.
“He apologized to me, but I’m not the one he should have apologized to. It seemed like empty words.”
Suspended sentence
Loram appeared at Exeter Crown Court in July 2021 and admitted three counts of making indecent images of children – by downloading.
Judge David Evans gave Loram a nine-month suspended sentence and he was placed on the sex offenders’ register and told to attend a treatment course.
Loram was also given a sexual harassment prevention order for ten years, which means police can monitor his online activities.
“I only found out what happened to him because a friend sent me a message on Facebook,” says Rosie.
“It came up on the sat nav while I was driving, just a very simple message along the lines of ‘Pete has been convicted but is not serving time.’
“I pulled over on the side of the road, I was just a mess.”

‘Justice for these children’
Rosie is angry about the punishment and says that people like Loram deserve much harsher punishments for their heinous crimes.
“These children are worth more than the sentence he received,” she claims.
“We teach our children that there are consequences for their actions and that they must be responsible for their actions.
“But there didn’t seem to be any real consequences for Peter’s actions.
Where is the justice for these children?
