I’m excited to see Carlisle’s vintage Doc Octopus costume make an appearance in the Marvel Universe.

The advent of this technology must have caught the attention of some of the more sinister characters in Earth-616, possibly including Luke Carlisle. Carlisle is a well-known con man and thief in Marvel Comics who worked his way up the corporate ladder through fraud, and when his CEO discovered these actions, Carlisle killed him. The villain then turned his sights on Otto Octavius, pretending to compete for the researcher position and stealing his mechanical limbs.
Octavius used four mechanical limbs, and Luke Carlisle and his scientists adapted the technology into a six-arm suit of armor. This 1960s-style armor gave Carlisle some extraordinary abilities, so I’m looking forward to seeing Carlisle’s retro Doctor Octopus costume appear in the Marvel Universe. Carlisle’s appearance may bring youth, cunning, and vitality to the character of Doctor Octopus. If the Green Goblin and Doctor Octopus are going to make their official debut in the Marvel Universe, I hope Phil Urich and Luke Carlisle can take over the moniker and bring some freshness to the series.

Marvel Studios needs to try something new with Green Goblin and Doctor Octopus

However, this presented a huge challenge for Marvel Studios as it made introducing official MCU versions of the Green Goblin and Doctor Octopus nearly impossible. It would have been difficult for new actors to take over for Dafoe and Molina, as they haven’t played villains in over a decade, but reminding us how great they were in those roles made replacing them an even more difficult task.
Bringing in Phil Urich and Luke Carlisle as the Green Goblin and Doctor Octopus, respectively, would solve this problem. There would still be connections to Osborn and Octavius’ villains, with Urich and Carlisle being inspired by their predecessors, but this would allow Marvel Studios to try something new. I was also disappointed that there weren’t any villains in the MCU that actually fought Holland’s Spider-Man, so the debuts of Urich’s Green Goblin and Carlisle’s Doctor Octopus would expand Peter Parker’s villain arsenal and mark the live-action debuts of both young villains.
