Shaheen Afridi is a Pakistani professional international cricketer who plays as a fast bowler for the Pakistan national team.

Shaheen Afridi was born on Thursday, April 6, 2000 (23 years old in 2023) in Landikotal, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. His full name is Shaheen Shah Afridi. Shaheen grew up playing tennis and cricket in the barren hills of Landikotal, bordering Afghanistan.
When his elder brother Riaz Afridi, a former Pakistani cricketer, saw Shaheen excelling in tennis, he introduced him to hardball cricket. In a short period of time, Shaheen made rapid progress and was selected for the Pakistan national team in 2018 at the age of 17.

Shaheen Afridi is a Muslim who belongs to the Pashtun Zahakir Afridi tribe, the largest Afridi tribe in Khyber Agency.
Parents and siblings
Shaheen’s father, Ayaz Khan, is a retired government official, and his mother, a housewife, is the youngest of seven siblings.
His elder brother, Riaz Afridi, played one Test match for Pakistan in 2004. Shaheen is 15 years younger than him.
On February 3, 2023, he married Shahid Afridi’s daughter Ansha in Karachi, Pakistan.

Domestic/Regional Cricket
In 2015, at the age of 15, Shaheen participated in his first professional cricket trials. The trials were held to select players for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) cricket team.
In 2017, Shaheen signed a two-year contract with Dhaka Dynamites, a franchise of the Bangladesh Premier League. In the same year, on 26 September 2017, he made his debut in first-class cricket for Khan Research Laboratory in the 2017-18 Quaid-e-Azam Cup. He took eight wickets and 39 runs in his debut match. This is the best score by a Pakistani bowler in a first-class debut match. In April 2018, he was selected in the Balochistan squad for the 2018 Pakistan Cup. On 25 April 2018, he made his debut in Grade A cricket for Balochistan. During his illustrious career, Shaheen has played for several franchises around the world.
International Cricket
In March 2018, due to his outstanding performance in the domestic T20 tournament, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) selection committee selected Shaheen in the 15-man squad for Pakistan’s series against the West Indies. On 3 April 2018, he made his debut for Pakistan in a T20 International (T20I) against the West Indies.
In the same year, in September 2018, his name was included in Pakistan’s One Day International (ODI) squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2018. On 21 September 2018, he played his first ODI match for Pakistan and on 3 December 2018, he made his Test debut for Pakistan against New Zealand.

After the controversy made headlines, Tik Toker Hareem Shah issued an explanation stating that the Twitter account that originally uploaded the video was actually a fake account. Later, when Shaheen was asked about the controversy in an interview, he refused to comment on it and said,
Outside of the court, there is a lot of negative news. I try not to pay attention to it. Because there is competition [for places] In fast bowling, I tend to focus on performance.”
- In December 2019, Shaheen Afridi got into trouble for making an alleged racist remark to a Pakistani media reporter during a post-match press conference. When the reporter asked him a question, Shaheen said in Urdu:
“Thoda light apne aap pe karein, thoda sa nazar aaye mujhe” (Please shine yourself so that I can see you clearly)

- Shaheen Afridi had not even played under-19 regional cricket, but at the age of 16, he was selected for the Pakistan national team.
- Sheheen Afridi had a bad season for Qalandars in the first three matches of the Pakistan Super League: 2017 season and thought about quitting the sport. Former Pakistani fast bowler Aaqib Javed revealed this in an interview with Cricket Pakistan in 2020. He said,
He (Shaheen) was 17 when he first represented Qalandars. He played a few games initially and performed poorly, so he came to me and said he didn’t want to play cricket anymore and wanted to get back the money that the Qalandars owners had invested in him. I told him that anyone can score runs and he will be a superstar one day. We rested him for a few games and then brought him back against Multan where he took five wickets. It’s all about believing in talent and giving them opportunities”
- As a member of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s list of Grade A contract players, Shaheen gets a monthly salary of PKR 1.1 million (approximately INR 520,000) as per the Pakistan Cricket Board’s men’s central contract list for 2020-21.
- Among his car collection is an Audi A4.
- On June 30, 2023, he created history by taking four wickets in the first innings of the match. While playing for Nottinghamshire Outlaws in the T20 Blast match against Birmingham Bears, he dismissed Alex Davies (0), Chris Benjamin (0), Dan Mousley (1) and Ed Bernard (0) in succession, taking four wickets for the team in the first innings of the match.
- On October 31, 2023, Shaheen created history at the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, West Bengal, by becoming the fastest Pakistani bowler to get 100 ODI wickets.
- In March 2024, Pakistan cricket commentator and coach Wasim Akram criticized Shaheen’s all-round skills. However, after scoring a half-century in just 28 balls in the 2024 Pakistan Super League, he silenced his critics with a “shush” gesture.
