This is one of the biggest movies of the year, and certainly the scariest. More than three hours of Christopher Nolan’s biographical thriller about the making of the atomic bomb – and the life of F. Robert Oppenheimer – has been touted as a cinematic masterpiece.

As a film and digital TV editor at HELLO!, I’ve done the majority of premieres over the years, all with varying degrees of fanfare and my own style. . Thanks to Oppenheimer’s impressive marketing campaign (along with its formidable foe, Barbie doll), I knew this would be spectacular.

Not only was Leicester Square packed with fans hoping to catch a glimpse of the stars, but the atmosphere of the cast – knowing they were promoting something special, which critics as well The audience will praise – also a special thing.
So if you’ve never attended a red carpet event as a journalist, here’s what to expect. You pick up your pass at a nearby hotel and bypass security – usually enjoying a short walk on the red carpet, or in this case the black carpet, and snapping crazy selfies before Find your magazine position in the media row.
As the film is one of the biggest movies of the year, the media is filled with cameras, microphones, photographers and, of course, friendly conversation between journalists quickly turning to which actor you want to talk about. Most importantly, what question would you like to ask me? I’ll ask you that maybe we need to ‘crowd’ together to capture the answer if the stars rush inside.

This is a really impressive, rich cast. Countless stars lead men and women in their own ways, with Florence Pugh, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., Casey Affleck, Rami Malek, Kenneth Branaugh and Josh Hartnett all serving as supporting characters – and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

As with most prime ministers, the interviews were a mixture of heartbreak and frustration. Unlike the very rare occasions where stars talk to people, celebrities only have so much time and limited publication to talk. As such, I was lucky enough to answer questions from Kenneth Branagh, David Dastmalchian and Máté Haumann – but had to sadly watch Florence Pugh, Matt Damon and Robert Downey Jr pass me by (but I stopped to take pictures with fans and looks great ) . And finally, Rami Malek rushed through the premiere and took a group photo before greeting the fans.

When talking to me about Oppenheimer, Kenneth Branagh reflected on the biggest lesson learned from her experience. He said: “It has been privileged to work with an incredible cast with a brilliant director on a subject that is both historically important and delivers an incredible piece of cinematography. “It’s great storytelling by a great medium from a master and to be part of it, it’s special.”
I also enjoyed talking to David Dastmalchian, who talked to me about getting into the character. He explained: “I’m digging into historical research and trying to figure out what I can know about him. [William Borden] and his motivation, all of which affect performance. So, of course, then you have to put yourself in the role and try to figure out how to make it your own.”

As celebrities flocked inside to watch the movie (before they left in solidarity with the actors’ strike), I was driven by the adrenaline rush and the general feeling that we all We all know that we’re all part of what audiences will talk about for years – so will you Oppenheimer?
Oppenheimer will open in theaters worldwide on July 21.
