Iain Armitage Dedicates Emotional Post to Young Sheldon Costar Ahead of Series Finale: 'Love You'

This post contains spoilers from the May 9 episode Young Sheldon.

Iain Armitage says goodbye to Young Sheldon — and a member of his on-screen family.

The 15-year-old actor who plays Sheldon Cooper in the movie Big Bang Theory spinoff since it was 9 years old, shared a short but sweet post on May 10 following the penultimate episode of the CBS sitcom on May 9.

In the episode titled “A New Home and Traditional Texas Torture,” Sheldon faced a major tragedy: the death of his father, George Cooper Sr., after a heart attack.

The death was not unexpected, as previously established in Big Bang Theory that George (played by Lance Barber) died when Sheldon was 14, but it still hit a hard chord with fans — and Armitage himself.

In his post, the teenage actor shared two photos, a Young Sheldon a photo of Sheldon and George interacting and a smiling behind-the-scenes selfie of him and Barber.

And, in a nod to George’s last episode on the show before the May 16 finale, Armitage wrote: “Love you George! I love you Lance!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️.”

Even though she knew George would die of a heart attack, the news caught her off guard, Perry, 40, told TVLine ahead of the episode.

Armitage also said he wanted to tackle a project that was “exactly the opposite end of the spectrum” from his stint on the CBS sitcom.

“It’s funny, because I had so much fun doing this character for seven great years that it would be great to do something … completely different from Sheldon in every way,” he told PEOPLE.
