Iam Tongi (born September 1, 2004) is a TV personality, singer and songwriter from Hawaii. He became famous after appearing on American Idol 2023. He was also declared the winner of the 21st season of the popular American singing competition.

Iam Tongi was born into a Hawaiian family in Kahuku, Hawaii, he celebrates his birthday on September 1st. His name is William Tongi and he is a Virgo. He is on track to graduate from Decatur High School later this year.

Career
At the age of 11, Iam Tongi started learning to play the ukulele. He received instructions from his teacher in the fifth grade. Eventually he got tired of playing a musical instrument. His fingers hurt from playing the instrument. However, over time he learned to play the ukulele. In addition, he started writing his own songs.
Finally, at the end of 2020, he started his music career with the release of his debut single Dreams. He went silent after releasing the single and hasn’t released any new music for over two years. After winning American Idol, he came back and released a single titled Efiafi featuring Manatau Tuifu in March 2023. His uncle was the person he collaborated with on this single. He was always with Tongi, encouraging him to various auditions.
He also released several other singles, including Gone, The Winner Takes It All and Trust Me. His latest single is called I’ll Be Seeing You. Dreams is currently his most popular song, with almost 400 thousand streams on Spotify.
At his American Idol audition in New Orleans, he sang James Blunt’s Monster. Three judges gave him a green single and he advanced to the Hollywood Round. His performance was among the 26 best, and he went on. In the Top 26 and Top 20 rounds, he performed “Don’t Let Go” by Spawnbreezie and “The Winner Takes It All” by ABBA. He made it to the Top 12 round after being declared safe, where he sang What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong.
William continued to excel in the later rounds and eventually reached the final. He performed three different songs, including his latest release, and was declared the winner. He was the first Hawaiian to do so.
