Ice Spice’s career has been intertwined with animation since her breakthrough in 2022 — from the cartoon version of herself she wears as a pendant to her admiration for all things Sponge Bob SquarePants. However, with her latest collaboration, animation literally enters her world.
Teaming up with Starry for PepsiCo’s 2024 Super Bowl ad, the 24-year-old Grammy-nominated artist connects with animated characters in a mixed-up world, à la Bob Hoskins in Who placed Roger Rabbit.
“I love animation. I’m not going to lie,” Ice Spice, (whose real name is Isis Naija Gaston), tells PEOPLE. – I am the type of person who will watch cartoons forever, no matter how old I am.

The clip, which Ice Spice teased as her “second time acting,” shows her in a club receiving kisses from Lem and Lime, two animated fruits from the Starry universe. Then she runs into an “ex-boyfriend”, who is unkindly referred to simply as “Lemon Lime Soda”. After Ice Spice explains that she wants something “fresher and crunchier,” her ex declares his love for her as she blinks and watches him cry.
“Starry is the vibe. So I’m excited to be a part of this. And it’s my first Super Bowl commercial,” she says of the silly spot. “I’m just so blessed and grateful for this whole experience and life in general. It’s really exciting.”
When asked what roles she would like to get next, Ice Spice says she is not picky.
“This is my second time acting, so wherever the wind takes me really,” he adds.

While she hasn’t revealed any acting plans in the near future, Ice Spice is more focused on delivering her new music. Earlier this week, she announced plans to release her debut album, Y2K, at some point in 2024. The album, which is titled as a nod to her birthday on January 1, 2000, will feature the “crazy collaboration” she previously teased on TODAY, and more than likely some new production from her time. to the producer RIOT.
As Ice Spice told PEOPLE, she wouldn’t be opposed to hearing her friend Taylor Swift — with whom she collaborated in 2023 for their remix of “Karma” — on a RIOT beat. “I’d like to hear that,” she says. “That would be so much fun.”

Ice Spice adds that she is “very excited” for fans to hear the new material, and that she “had a lot of fun recording it and making the videos.”
Staying a bit tight-lipped about her upcoming album, one influence that has emerged in Ice Spice’s new music — especially her latest single, “Think U The S— (Fart)” — has been internet memes.
Her latest song, inspired by the years-old Super Mario meme, is actually the product of her friend, fellow musician Clip, who sent her the image directly. “I think Clip sent it to me a few months ago and ever since I saw it, I thought it was s— so funny,” says Ice Spice. – It came from there.
“Memes are a big thing for me in general, just as a person,” she adds. “I love memes. I love to laugh a lot. So TikTok is my favorite app right now.”

While the song itself features the lyrics “Think you the s—, b—-? You not even the fart,” Ice Spice explains that being “the s—” isn’t as hard as it might seem.
“The key to being a dick is self-confidence,” she says. – That is the most important thing.
And for Ice Spice, being “s—” also has to mean being sponge Bob fan, as she reveals her favorite episode to PEOPLE: 2001’s “The Secret Box.”
“One of my favorite, favorite is when SpongeBob won’t let Patrick see what’s in his box,” she says of the show that inspired her hit, “Bikini Bottom.”
Starry’s Super Bowl commercial is set to air during the big game on February 11th. The Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers will face off in Super Bowl LVIII, airing on CBS at 6:30 PM ET.
