Ike Barinholtz Can't Wait to 'Rub in' His Who Wants to Be a Millionaire Win to His Fellow Famous Competitors (Exclusive)

Ike Barinholtz and his dad, Alan Barinholtz, have been preparing for this moment for years!

The father-son duo continued to compete Who wants to be a millionaire in the episode that aired on August 14 and triumphed as the only couple to win the million dollar jackpot so far this season. After answering Scrabble-level questions about pest slang and word definitions, Ike and Alan won a million dollar prize for a charity of their choice and told a few jokes along the way.

Calling their family “little forwards,” Ike tells PEOPLE that his entire childhood was spent preparing for this competition.

“Our whole life was trivia night. Whether we were little and we played Trivial Pursuit, or, I mean, we watched almost every episode Danger! and watched hundreds of episodes Who wants to be a millionaire?” he recalls.

Dezi — who is the son of Jon Barinholtz and his wife Annika — is deaf, and Ike and Alan won $1 million to fund the school’s American Sign Language (ASL) program. Ike says the initiative will be a “beacon” for students in the area who are hard of hearing or deaf, and serve as a framework for how other schools can build similar programs.

“Jonny told us what this school hopes to achieve if they have the funding and basically what the money will allow them to do is make their school ASL-ready,” explains Ike. “There aren’t many great options for deaf children when it comes to schooling, so this money will allow Los Encinos to teach dozens of its instructors and other students ASL.”

While Ike has been in the industry for over a decade — starring in movies like Sisters, Blockers and neighborsand building a creative partnership with Mindy Kaling on the fan favorite sitcom The Mindy Project and an upcoming Netflix show Running point — Alan is experiencing the second moment in his career as a self-proclaimed “nepo dad”.

With the support of his sons and wife Peggy — who simply said, “Please don’t embarrass the family,” before going on television — the lawyer played Judge Alan Rosen on the viral Freevee show Jury duty.

“Both of my sons are my advisors now. They’re my advisors,” Alan says of his burgeoning acting career, which also includes a role on Apple TV+ Physical and an upcoming appearance on the NBC comedy St. Denis Medical.

The father-son duo is excited to have their former and current colleagues watch their big win. In addition to sharing the news with the Los Encinos school staff and their family members, Ike says he can’t wait to tell Kaling, who knew he was competing on the show — but didn’t know how he and Alan did.

“I told her what I did that day, and then she asked me how it went, and I said, ‘Yeah, it was good,'” says the actor. “Maybe it occurred to her that I somehow skipped the question. I’m excited for her to see that.”

Ike also can’t wait to share the big news with some of his trivia-minded friends, either to celebrate together or, in one case, to brag.

“I’m excited for BJ Novak to see it because he’s a trivia expert. Also, Brendan Hunt, Patton Oswalt [whom Ike competed against on Celebrity Jeopardy!]David Chang and all the trivia geeks. I would also like to shake it in the face of the other people who were on A millionaire and he didn’t win millions,” he jokes.

Alan chimes in with a laugh, “Uh, yeah. That would be it [Nick] Kroll.”

Ike lunges at his dad, jokingly yelling, “Suck him, Kroll!” before quickly adding, “Actually, I had dinner with him last week. He’s just the most wonderful man.”
