The blue-winged pitta is a truly remarkable bird. It is endowed with a glamorous iridescent coat, making it conspicuous whenever it appears.
These beautiful creatures have a white neck, a green upper body, a yellow bottom, blue wings and fiery red vents. Look closely at their eyes, you’ll see a brown stripe above them.
However, young pittas have darker plumage.
The beautiful but shy blue-winged pitta is a species of sparrow in the family Pittidae. It may fly away before you take out the camera. Be patient to take good pictures!
This bird is widespread from India to Malaysia and Indonesia, to southern China and the Philippines.
It can be found in wet forest areas, gardens and parks. This species does not like to live in wooded areas.
In terms of diet, the green-winged pitta eats snails, crickets, ants, and earthworms. They search for prey through fallen leaves.
When spring arrives, this bird begins its breeding season. Females build spherical nests on the ground. Then they lay 5 eggs.
Unlike many birds, the male blue-winged pitta joins the female during incubation. This process takes about 16 days
