Incredibles 3: All About the Superhero Family's Return to the Screen

Incredible are officially returning to the big screen.

First Incredible the film, released in 2004, introduced audiences to the Parrs, a family of superheroes trying to fit into everyday life before the rise of a villain forces them all back into action. Incredible it eventually became a two-part series, with a sequel released in 2018 that continues to expand on the Parrs’ adventures.

Starring Craig T. Nelson, Holly Hunter, Sarah Vowell and Samuel L. Jackson, The Incredible quickly became a Pixar fan favorite upon its release, and its sequel held the studio’s highest-grossing rank until Inside out 2 he surpassed it in 2024.

Considering Incredible‘ wide audience and box office success, it should come as no surprise that Pixar has announced that it will make a third film.

Revealed during the studio segment at Disney’s D23 Entertainment Showcase 2024, Pixar’s Chief Creative Officer, Pete Docter, announced that Incredible 3 is officially working with the director of the first two films, Brad Bird, who is about to return.

While the Doctor teased that the film is still in development and more information will be released soon, here’s everything you need to know Incredible 3 so far, from potential plot twists to comebacks.

What are they Incredible movies about?

The Incredible the films follow the everyday lives of the Parr family, a family of superheroes who try to hide their powers while living a mundane life that occasionally calls for more.

In the first film, audiences are introduced to a world where superheroes have become illegal, forcing many of them into hiding, including Incredible‘ two protagonists Bob (Nelson) and Helen (Hunter) Parr, and their children Violet (Vowell), Dash (Huck Milner) and Jack-Jack.

From super strength to invisibility, the Parrs have unique powers that help them save the day in each film. However, as they face off against a host of villains, doubts begin to arise as to whether or not their world should bring back superheroes.

Where is it Incredible 2 leave?

Released 14 years after the first film, Incredible 2 picking up right where its predecessor left off, it sees the Parrs battling a villain called the Miner (John Ratzenberger).

However, after a failed mission, they’re forced into hiding again and seem to accept that maybe their world isn’t ready for superheroes to become legal again. However, when a wealthy telecommunications executive knocks on their door and reveals his plans to restore public confidence in supersupers, the Parrs are in.

The villain defeated, the crisis averted and several obstacles later overcome, the Parrs manage to regain public sympathy for the superheroes and by the end of the film help them regain their legal status.

Who directs Incredible 3?

At D23, Docter confirmed that Brad Bird will return to direct Incredible 3.

In addition to directing, Bird also wrote the first two Incredible movies. In them, he even stars as the voice behind Edna Moda, the legendary fashion designer of superhero clothing.

Bird also directed another Pixar film, Ratatouilleand worked as a senior creator of a number of studio works, including WALL-E, Up and From the inside out, as well as Toy story 3 and 4.

What is the plot Incredible 3?

Although there are no plot details Incredible 3 haven’t been discovered yet, Bird mentioned in a 2018 interview Entertainment Weekly that he did not get to explore all the stories he had hoped for Incredible 2.

Shifts in the sequel’s production timeline meant that some plots and characters had to be scrapped, to potentially be explored in the third film instead. “We wrote the script and designed the characters, and they are really good! Some of them were really funny and cool and explored certain things,” Bird revealed EW.

“You know, never say never, because there might be an opportunity to take advantage of it,” he added. “Maybe the idea will come up in another movie.”

Bird explained how he had the idea for the animated version Spirit used in his 1999 film The iron giant. “You never know how these things are going to be repurposed,” Bird said.

“We had many ideas [Incredibles 2] it could be [used] … be it another Incredible a movie, or something else,” he continued.

Who is acting? Incredible 3?

Although the casting is for Incredible 3 has yet to be announced, voice actors reprising their roles from the first two films include Nelson, Hunter and Vowell.

Meanwhile, Jackson also reprized his role as Lucius/Frozone for the second Incredible and has previously hinted that he would like to continue to explore his character in future films, particularly through an origin story.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly in 2018, Jackson shared, “[An origin story] It would be great to know why Lucius is such a nice uncle and how long he and Bob have known each other and what kind of things they’ve been up to?”

“Did they meet because they were superheroes? Did they meet by chance one night?” he added. “Or did they just meet naturally and find out, ‘Oh, you’re a hero too!’ ”

With Jackson, Hunter, Nelson and Vowell already reprising their roles, they would likely reprise their roles for a third Incredible movie.

Is there a trailer and release date for Incredible 3?

No announcement or release date for Incredible 3 however, Pixar only revealed the film’s title and logo at D23.

However, looking back at Pixar’s previous announcements at D23 and the resulting timelines leading up to a new film’s release, there is usually at least two years between the announcement and the release date.

At the 2022 D23 show, Pixar announced that it is producing Inside out 2 which was subsequently released in the summer of 2024. Although production issues may delay it Incredible 3based on past timelines, the film is likely to be released sometime between 2026 and 2027.
