India topped the number of medals at the 34th International Biology Olympiad
International Biology Olympiad 2023: India won the International Biology Olympiad (IBO) 2023 by taking first place in the medal standings. For the first time, every participating Indian student won a gold medal at the 34th IBO held in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates (UAE), from 3 to 11 July, 2023.
The Indian students who participated and won the gold medal in the Olympic competition were Dhruv Advani from Bengaluru, Karnataka, Ishan Pednekar from Kota, Rajasthan, Megh Chhabda from Jalna, Maharashtra and Rohit Panda from Risali, Chattisgarh.
A total of 293 students from 76 countries participated in the competition. Apart from India, Singapore is the only country to have won four gold medals, while a total of 29 gold medals were awarded in the competition.

Team India was accompanied by Madan M Chaturvedi, a former senior professor at the University of Delhi; Anupama Ronad of the Homi Bhabha Science Education Center (HBCSE) of the Tata Institute of Basic Research (TIFR); VV Binoy from the National Institute of Advanced Research in Bengaluru and Rambhadur Subedi from the National Institute of Reproductive Health (NIRRH) Mumbai.
