Texas Midwife Arrested for Allegedly Providing Abortion After State's Near-Total Ban

The Texas State Attorney has announced that the state charges Babica in the Houston area accused of abortion, which is generally illegal in the country.

Maria Margarita Rojas, 48, a midwife known as Dr. Maria, was arrested in Waller County in Texas, and has been charged with illegal action of abortion and treatment without permission, according to Texas State Attorney Ken Paxton.

“In Texas, life is holy,” Paxton said. “I will always do everything in my power to protect the unborn, defend the laws on the pervasive life of our country and work to ensure that unlicensed individuals endanger the lives of women by performing illegal abortions are completely prosecuted.”

Paxton claimed that Rojas managed multiple clinics that provided abortions, which were illegal in Texas unless the mother had a life -threatening condition or could face a serious health problem.

The State Attorney’s Office announced that in the country, providers are legally responsible for abortions, not patients.

Rojas is also accused of hiring unlicensed people who allegedly introduced themselves as licensed medical providers.

It is not immediately clear whether Rojas kept a lawyer or declared himself in connection with the accusations.

Texas abortion providers could also face a civic fine of at least $ 100,000, under the state law of 2021.
