Ingrid Bergman News

Justin Daly has always recognised the uniqueness of his grandmother, and he now wants younger moviegoers to meet “one of the greatest actresses who ever lived.”

Ingrid Bergman, the three-time Oscar winner who portrayed a woman who always had Paris with Humphrey Bogart in the 1943 film “Casablanca” and subsequently left Cary Grant speechless in the 1946 film “Notorious,” went away from cancer in 1982 on her 67th birthday. Despite being ill for eight years, the actress appeared in “Autumn Sonata” (1978) and “A Woman Called Golda” (1982), both of which featured Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir.

And Bergman was the one who encouraged Daly to pursue a career in movies. He recently directed the movie “The Big Take” and is now developing the movie “Hide Out.” In an interview with Fox News, he discussed his childhood friendship with the legendary actress, her final years, and how she handled the incident that resulted in her being censured on the Senate floor.

I didn’t know Ingrid, who I called “nonna,” was this famous actress when I was a child. I was aware that she had three Academy Awards and several Golden Globes on a table in her apartment’s living room. The assortment was impressive. I was aware that she was some sort of actress. Growing up, while she was performing at the theatre, I would go see her backstage. And I was aware of her great achievement. However, it was actually at her funeral that I first noticed she was unique.

I had come with my mother, father, and brother in 1982. There were a tonne of photographers waiting when we stepped out of the car. I recall that they encircled us. And one of the cameras was damaged.

But despite the commotion, I sensed that she wasn’t just my grandmother. To everyone else, she belonged. She was a part of everything. I didn’t recognise her as the “Casablanca” actress when I was a child. Although she had a lovely face, I just knew her as my grandmother.
