Inside Out 2 Trailer: Amy Poehler’s Joy Meets a New Teenage Emotion — Anxiety, Voiced by Maya Hawke

Pixar enters its teenage years with a sequel Inside Out.

On Thursday, the first trailer for Inside out 2 debuted, teasing the sequel to the 2015 film that starred Amy Poehler, Bill Hader, Mindy Kaling and an ensemble of voices portrayed as various emotions in a young girl’s head.

Inside out 2 sees Poehler, 52, return as Joy, as well as Phyllis Smith (Sadness) and Lewis Black (Anger) reprising their roles from the first film. Tony Hale enters the role of Fear for Hader, while Liza Lapira (Crazy stupid love) this time voting Abomination instead of Kalinga.

The sequel, set to be released roughly nine years after the original film’s debut, follows Joy (Poehler) and the other emotions as they ponder the red alarm that went off in Riley’s mind.

Ozzy Osbourne’s 1980 song “Crazy Train” plays as the alarm goes off and a wrecking crew of blue, purple and green emotes arrive for what they describe as “demo day” and begin to destroy Riley’s mind.

After crashing, the emotes discover that their console has unexpectedly turned orange, and they find a new emotion—Anxiety (voiced by Maya Hawke)—that arrived in Riley’s mind as she grew up.

Inside out 2 directed by Kelsey Mann, who makes his feature directorial debut with Pixar after working as a writer, director of shorts and creative consultant on the studio’s films back in 2013.

Mann said in a statement that the new character from the Anxiety sequel “might be new to the team, but she’s not the type to take a back seat.”

“It makes a lot of sense if you think about it in terms of what’s going on in our minds,” Mann said.

Inside out 2 it’s in theaters in June 2024.
