Avinash Mishra was born in Hamirpur, Uttar Pradesh, India. He has a master’s degree in physical education. After completing his formal education, Avinash appeared for and passed the Provincial Civil Service (PCS) examination of the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission, after which he joined the Uttar Pradesh Police Academy, Moradabad, where he served between 1982 and 1985 Received police training there.

After completing his police training in 1985, Avinash Mishra was posted to Meerut as an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI). There, he eliminated three feared gangsters within a year of taking office. Later, he was posted to Mhow and in 1998, he was sent to Lucknow to hunt down notorious gangster Prakash Shukla. In the same year, Avinash Mishra formed the Special Task Force (STF) along with some other police officers. Later, he received a tip and went to Nepal to capture Prakash. However, Prakash managed to flee the country and traveled to Bihar. Avinash talked about this in an interview and said:
We almost met him in Nepal, where I went with my team after receiving a tip-off. But Nepal police intervened and Shukla managed to escape. We also found him in Bihar, but due to the unstable relationship between the Uttar Pradesh and Bihar governments at that time, we were unable to locate him. “
On September 11, 1998, Mishra and the STF traveled to Delhi where they met a fearsome gangster named Munna Bajrangi. During the encounter, Munna was shot several times and pronounced dead by police. However, morgue staff found he was still alive when they took him for an autopsy. Mishra spoke about this in an interview and said:
Very embarrassing. We had announced him dead in the media and now suddenly he was alive. This is further proof of Jaakho Raake Saaiyan, Maar Sake Na Koi. “
On September 22, 1998, Mishra and the STF went to Indirapuram in Ghaziabad, where an exchange of fire broke out between the STF and Shukla, which ultimately led to Shukla’s death. According to Mishra, the STF identified Shukla’s location after he turned on his phone while visiting his girlfriend at her house in Ghaziabad.
In 2002, the STF under Mishra met Chhota Rajan’s close associates Sattu Pandey and Guddu in Lucknow. Sattu was reportedly carrying a cash reward of Rs. He is wanted for the murder of a UP businessman named Vivek Srivastava and the robbery of a clothing store in Aminabad. Thereafter, he met many notorious gangsters and mafia such as Sachin Pahadi, Awadhesh Shukla, Ashok Singh, Mahendra Fauji, Nirbhay Gurjar and Hasan Pudia. In 2009, Avinash Mishra was posted to the Uttar Pradesh Police Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS); he served there till 2018. He retired from the police department in 2019 as a deputy chief.
