Interview with a vampire fans are in for an emotional rollercoaster.
Jacob Anderson and Sam Reid, who star in the AMC series, spoke with PEOPLE at 10 about what’s next for season two of the gothic horror series.
Anderson, 33 — who portrays Louis de Pointe du Lac, a 145-year-old vampire who is the subject of the series’ “interview” with Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian) — says fans should brace themselves for an unforgettable second season.
“This is a very, very emotional season,” he says, before clarifying that he thinks the first season was also emotional, but the second season provides a new perspective into his character’s psyche.
“I think it’s the intellectual current that runs through Louis and the way Louis speaks. It’s a cover in Season 1. It’s a screen for separation, and it kind of comes down to the raw, like what’s under the skin,” he adds.

The Game of Thrones alum admits that fans will be “screaming at the TV,” but adds that he believes fans will “feel a great deal of satisfaction and catharsis and all the emotions.”
“I think when people watch it, they’re going to be shocked to hear that they come out of it,” he notes.
First Look at AMC’s ‘Anne Rice Interview with the Vampire’ Made for ‘modern audiences’
The series follows Anderson’s character, who seeks to re-interview veteran journalist Daniel Molloy after an unpublished interview from 1973. During their interview, he reminisces about his life in New Orleans in the 1910s, when he was romantically involved and was later raped by Lestat de vampirio Lioncourt (Reid).
In the midst of Louis’ transition, the couple meets a dying teenager, Claudia (Delainey Hayles), who is turned into a vampire by Lestat. The two men then raise her as their daughter throughout the series.

The series is based on Anne Rice’s 1976 novel of the same name and is not the first screen adaptation of a horror novel. In 1994, Neil Jordan brought the story to the big screen with Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt playing Lestat and Louis respectively.
Unlike the series, the film follows Louis’ transformation into a vampire beginning in 1791, not 1910. It also stars Kirsten Dunst as Claudia, Christian Slater as Daniel, as well as Antonio Banderas and Stephen Rea.

Ahead of the series’ 2022 premiere, the show’s executive producer, Mark Johnson (Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul), told PEOPLE about the importance of preserving the author’s legacy in modern storytelling.
“Developing this series carries a lot of pressure and responsibility,” he said. “What Anne Rice has created and what her fans have been delighted with makes us take this transition from book to television with a great deal of responsibility. It’s imperative that we don’t disappoint her fans, yet we have to make sure that this story, these characters sing for modern audience.”
