Honeymoon is no longer just for two.
More and more newlyweds are celebrating after the wedding by inviting friends and family to continue the wedding festivities.
“There’s always a bit of disappointment for a couple after a wedding,” says celebrity planner Marcy Blum, whose VIP client list includes Kevin Love and Kate Bock, LeBron James, Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent, and Bill Gates’ daughter Jennifer Gates and Nayel Nassar.
“After a long planning process and so much anticipation and connecting with friends and family, the aftermath can feel a little lonely. For couples who have been together for a while, vacationing alone is not a unique experience, and taking a friend on a trip makes re-entering the world of not planning a wedding much less awkward.”

Blum and her longtime love Destin Coleman recently surprised 20 friends and family members who gathered in St. Barths at a weekend-long celebration in honor of Bluma’s birthday.
Instead, she and Coleman said “I do” in an intimate wedding surrounded by their loved ones. The couple and their guests then celebrated the joyous occasion with sunset cocktails and a quiet dinner at Eden Rock.

The wedding weekend ended on Sunday with a daytime party at Nikki Beach, which included dinner on the wraparound balcony of the Howard Hughes suite at Eden Rock.
When bride Korie Miranda of New York married her fiancé Sa’ar Yaniv in an intimate three-day celebration in Tuscany, Italy in July 2022, they kept the party going with a fun post-wedding trip with close friends. After their Italian “I” – which included a chic welcome dinner set in the picturesque Tuscan hills, plus a farewell pool party – the newlyweds invited a group of guests to join them for part of their honeymoon in Sardinia.

“We decided to start our honeymoon with a matemoon because why limit the celebration to just one day?” the couple tells PEOPLE. “I would definitely do it again, it’s a burst of energy that goes straight from a wedding to a fun honeymoon with friends.”
The couple hired a large villa overlooking the coast and a yacht to celebrate with friends during the celebrations, before jetting off for a few quiet days together as husband and wife in Capri.
“Our favorite memory is reliving the wedding moments with our closest friends over long dinners and late night drinks,” says Miranda.

The trend is quickly gaining popularity in the wedding industry. Blum adds that she is increasingly going on group honeymoons and adds that one of her clients who recently got married in Marbella decided to have her mother, sisters and friends join her for the first part of the honeymoon, then ended the trip with a few days alone together. .
“It’s basically an extension of the party, but everyone pays their own way and there’s no real schedule to stick to,” she says.

“It’s becoming popular for many of our clients, especially if the wedding is in Europe where guests are likely to extend their stay anyway.”
As for the potential downsides, Blum says some guests might feel left out of the celebration.
“If you include some friends and family on your honeymoon, it can be difficult to explain to others why they weren’t invited. And you definitely don’t want a traveling wedding caravan.”
