Did you know that 10-year-old Brie Larson would probably spend an hour of recess on the library computer Googling Wikihow for “How do you know if you’re gay?”
Larson’s answer to an online quiz about herself might not have been anyone’s first choice, but it was correct. She solved a quiz for her YouTube channel. When asked, “Is Brie Larson gay?” this recording became everyone’s answer.
Despite her remark, she has not formally come out as gay. Fans can’t wait to see gay Brie Larson on screen. Larson has a boyfriend that she often flaunts on social media, so it’s highly unlikely that she’s a lesbian.
The fans didn’t lose hope either. They’re thrilled to see Larson as queer on screen, if not in real life, especially after noticing the LGBT undertones in her MCU blockbuster Captain Marvel. Check out some of the tweets below!
Larson’s character, who does not have a male love interest, was one of the highlighted queer undertones. She also had a daughter with the other female character in the film, Maria Rambeau, a fellow Air Force pilot (Lashana Lynch). On the other hand, Larson and Lynch’s on-screen relationship was far from canonical.

The directors did not extinguish the lesbian chemistry of Larson-Lynch
When Captain Marvel directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck were asked if fans were on the lookout for anything, they offered Comic Book Movie (via Cosmopolitan) a cryptic answer.
The filmmakers admitted that Larson’s romantic relationship in the first Captain Marvel film was something they discussed in the early stages of production.
When asked if fans had any inklings, Captain Marvel directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck gave a cryptic response to the Comic Book Movie (via Cosmopolitan ).
Larson’s love affair in the first Captain Marvel film was something the directors explored early in production, according to the directors.
They later determined that the plot was already too complicated to include a romantic subplot. Despite this, they were fully aware of how fans had sent certain characters into the film and had no objections to the idea.
Because several of the world’s biggest entertainment markets would not allow LGBTQ representation on screen, Marvel has traditionally avoided highlighting LGBTQ+ characters in its big-budget initiatives.
While it’s understandable that a commercial franchise would hold back on a few things if it meant reaching wider markets, the fact that LGBTQ+ representation suffered because of that hesitancy is frustrating, to say the least.
LGBTQ+ superhero in the MCU
But to give credit where credit is due, director Kevin Feige stated in 2019 that Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie would be the first LGBTQ+ superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Since then, fans have tuned in to see the Thompson-Larson duo on the big screen. Luckily, during an appearance at the 2019 ACE Comic-Con event (via Them ), the duo confirmed their theories.
When the moderator asked the two actors what fans can expect to see in the upcoming project, a loud voice from the audience said, “Lesbians!”
“How can I top ‘lesbians,'” replied Larson, a now legendary response.
