Sheffield Wednesday fan Dale Houghton faces jail after pleading guilty to mocking the death of children’s mascot Bradley Lowery. Houghton, 31, has been charged with public disorder after he posted a picture on social media of himself and another guy smiling at Hillsborough Stadium while carrying a photo of Bradley. In 2017, he died of neuroblastoma at the age of six.
Defoe, who had a close acquaintance with Bradley, criticized the actions of Houghton, who said: “I am appalled and grieved at the actions of the person concerned.” Defoe asked the public to support Bradley’s parents, Gemma and Carl, and praised the efforts of the Bradley Lowery Foundation. Sheffield Wednesday supporters have launched a fundraising campaign, raising almost £22,500 for charity.
