Comcast recently announced changes to Peacock Premium for X1 and Flex customers. Peacock Premium will no longer be offered at no additional cost. Peacock introduced Comcast’s NBCUniversal in July 2020 as an ad-supported streaming platform, offering both free and premium subscription options. Initially, Peacock’s free tier had limited content, while a premium subscription was available for $4.99 per month with ads or $9.99 per month for an ad-free experience, providing access to a wider range of content.
In August 2020, Comcast included Peacock in its Xfinity X1 and Flex set-top boxes, allowing its subscribers to access the ad-supported Peacock TV service at no additional cost. This strategic move was intended to leverage Xfinity’s significant customer base to drive Peacock’s initial growth. Customers with Xfinity X1 or Flex set-top boxes can enjoy the Peacock app and its content without the need for a separate subscription to Peacock Premium.
However, beginning on June 26, 2023, Xfinity will discontinue offering the ad-supported Peacock TV service at no additional cost. Consequently, if you want to continue accessing Peacock content after that date, you will need to subscribe and pay for it independently, similar to other streaming platforms. While the Peacock app will continue to be available on Xfinity platforms, a premium subscription will be required to unlock its content.
It’s worth mentioning that Peacock remains a relatively affordable streaming option compared to competitors like Netflix or Disney+. With a premium subscription, you get access to a huge collection of TV shows, movies, live and on-demand sports and news programs. Despite no longer being available for free on Xfinity as of June 2023, Peacock continues to offer value for cord cutters looking for a cost-effective streaming platform.
How long is Peacock free with Xfinity?
Previously, Peacock Premium was offered for free to Xfinity customers until June 26, 2023. However, Xfinity customers are now eligible for a special offer to access Peacock Premium at a discounted price of up to $2.99 per month for 12 months. This exclusive offer is only available to Xfinity customers who have a qualifying Xfinity TV or Internet plan.
After the 12-month period, the regular price for Peacock Premium will apply, which is $4.99 per month or $9.99 per month for Peacock Premium Plus. If you decide not to continue your subscription, you are free to cancel it at any time.
To take advantage of Xfinity’s special offer, you can visit the Peacock website or app and click the “Sign Up” button. Enter your Xfinity username and password, then click the “Subscribe” button. Select the “Xfinity Special Offer” option and enter your payment information.
This means that Xfinity X1 or Flex set-top box users who want to continue enjoying Peacock’s content after the specified date will have to subscribe to Peacock directly and pay for it separately.
Peacock has been available to Xfinity X1 and Flex customers for free since launch in 2020, spanning nearly three years. However, starting June 26, 2023, the ad-supported version of Peacock will no longer be available to Xfinity customers without a subscription. Regardless, users still have the option to purchase Peacock’s premium subscription to enjoy its content.
Once you complete the subscription process, you can start streaming Peacock Premium. For non-Xfinity customers, the Peacock Premium sign-up option is still available at the regular price of $4.99 per month or $9.99 per month for Peacock Premium Plus.
What is Xfinity replacing Peacock with?
