Thank you for your service plot
After completing a traumatic 15-month combat tour in Iraq, decorated soldier Adam Schumann returns to his home in Kansas to be greeted by his loving wife Saskia and their two young children. However, Adam’s experiences have left him struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), haunted by nightmares and frequent flashbacks. Saskia encourages him to seek help from the overburdened Department of Veterans Affairs.
Adam finds solace in the company of two fellow Iraq veterans who live nearby, Solo Aieti and Billy Waller. Tragically, Billy takes his own life after discovering that his fiancee has stolen his money and their child.
Adam’s unresolved psychological issues revolve around his guilt for failing to save a fellow soldier, Michael Emory, during the fight. Michael suffered a serious injury and is now paralyzed, but expresses gratitude to Adam for being alive.
Adam also carries survivor’s guilt for allowing Sergeant First Class James Doster to take his place on patrol one day, leading to Doster’s death when their vehicle hit an improvised explosive device. Solo, who helped them escape, is struggling with severe PTSD and memory loss.
In an effort to help Solo, Adam intervenes when he becomes involved with drug dealers led by a Gulf War veteran named Dante. Adam sends Solo to a rehab center in California, where he takes his place reserved for PTSD treatment.
After completing his stay at the rehabilitation center, Adam returns home to a warm welcome from his wife and children, hoping to rebuild their lives together.”
