She was diagnosed in October 2023, a month after she said she was suffering from headaches while starting her freshman year at UCLA. Isabella said,
“I didn’t notice anything was wrong until probably October 1st. That’s when I definitely noticed the headaches, the nausea, I couldn’t walk straight.”
“I woke up, probably around 1 p.m., I was afraid of waking up. But I was throwing up blood. I said, ‘Um, this is probably not good.’ So I sent a message [my sister]who then informed the whole family.”
Michael Strahan said,
“That’s when we decided, ‘You really need to go for a thorough checkup. And kudos to the doctor. I feel like this doctor saved her life because she was thorough enough to say, ‘Let’s do a full exam.'”
“She did [electrocardiogram, or EKG]there for my heart and stuff, other things, but she didn’t have an MRI machine, so I went to the [get an MRI] somewhere else,” Isabella Strahan said of the appointment. And then he calls me and says, ‘You have to go to Cedars-Sinai [Medical Center] now. I’ll meet you there.’”
Isabella underwent emergency surgery at Cedars-Sinai to remove the mass on October 27, 2023.
Michael Strahan said,
“She was heavily medicated, as you can imagine. But she would have conversations. She had a lot of her friends and they would come just to sit with her. And there were times when it hurt a lot. She slept a lot.”
After the operation, she underwent a month of rehabilitation and several rounds of radiation. He is about to begin chemotherapy at Duke Children’s Hospital & Health Center in Durham, North Carolina in February 2024.
