It’s Party Pony Season! Up Your Hair Game with Ashley Graham and Julianne Moore’s Looks

Are you looking for a holiday hairstyle that is elegant and easy to create? Look no further than the ponytail.

Ashley Graham and Julianne Moore are among the latest stars to wear the style on the red carpet. Graham and her hairstylist Anthony Perez accessorized her Swarovski x SKIMS ensemble with a high, textured version of the style at the brands’ collaboration party on Nov. 7 in New York, and the next day, Moore rocked one courtesy of hairstylist Orlando Pita at the Creative Time 2023 event.

Pita says, “The ponytail is extremely versatile. A low ponytail can look very chic and sophisticated, while a high ponytail looks more fun and flirty. You can spice up your look by adding fun and festive accessories to complement your holiday outfit.”

Ahead, both Graham and Moore’s pros tell PEOPLE how to achieve their gorgeous looks.

The model’s lively, laid-back look provides an “uplifting and fun vibe,” says Perez.

The two chose it so the “stunning” crystals on her cleavage could have their moment in the spotlight.

Graham’s dramatic bangs, with their deep, diagonal part, “balanced the long, playful ponytail,” explains Perez.

Using the right products was key to creating a look that was both carefree and controlled. Big SexyHair Root Pump Volumizing Spray Mousse gave the base of the ponytail volume and control,” says Perez.

For her sleek sides, the pro used a combination of R+CO Mannequin Styling Paste and the brand’s High Dive Moisture+Shine Crème. “I mixed the two together to smooth the sides and give a clean line of shine.”

Spraying Kenra Perfect Medium Spray 13 fixed all the flaws.

Perez says that to achieve this look, it’s helpful to use a blow dryer—even if your hair is already dry—to direct the hair where you plan to put the ponytail. This process will minimize any lumps and bumps when you lift your hair.

“The cut of Julianne’s dress inspired the whole look,” says Pita. “I felt her hair pulled back would best suit the neckline of the dress. A bun would look too strict and formal [whereas] the ponytail looked fresh and youthful.”

For this “neat but effortless” style, Pita blow-dried Moore’s hair with Orlando Pita Play Atmos-Shield, a heat protection spray from the Professional Collection.

To help control the direction of your hair, the pro recommends coating your brush with a moisture-blocking hairspray like his Orlando Pita Play Climate Change to keep it smooth. Next, she loves a gloss (Orlando Pita Play The Gloss Up) to control any flyaways.

And if your ponytail needs an extra festive touch, add an accessory, says Pita. “Bows, glittery hairpins or headbands can decorate a ponytail to make it look more festive.”
